Hyderabad : Prof. Surya Dhananjaya, Vice-Chancellor of Veeranari Chakali Ailamma Women’s University and a prominent educationist and litterateur, said that Hyderabad, known as a symbol of peace and religious harmony, is an inspiration for everyone. She was speaking as the chief guest at a programme organized by the Telangana Intellectuals Forum, Telangana State Branch, at Chakali Ailamma Women’s University in Koti on Monday to mark International Peace Day.
Prof. Surya Dhananjaya explained, citing several examples, that children should be guided towards the path of peace from their student days itself. University Registrar Mallesham said that the younger generation should study the struggle and sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi for India’s independence and contribute to the unity and development of the country.
Dr. Raj Narayan Mudiraj, State President of the Telangana Intellectuals Forum, said that the Global Peace Award-2026, presented every year to one person from Telangana, had been awarded this year to Prof. Surya Dhananjaya, Vice-Chancellor of Chakali Ailamma Women’s University. He said that Mahatma Gandhi led India’s freedom movement with the weapon of peace and ultimately achieved independence for the country.

Prof. Surya Dhananjaya is a renowned educationist, litterateur and administrator. She completed her MA, MPhil and PhD from Osmania University and served as the Head of the Department of Telugu at Osmania University. She has worked in the Telugu Department of Osmania University for the past 26 years, served as an NSS Programme Officer and as Director of the OU Women’s Studies Centre. She has authored 29 books on Telugu literature.
Under the guidance of Prof. Surya Dhananjaya, 27 scholars obtained Ph.D. degrees. She has presented/published 86 research papers at 60 national and international conferences and has received several national and international awards.
On the occasion, University OSD Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Principal Dr. Loka Pavani, Dr. Premalatha, Examination Controller Dr. Shashikala, Prof. Krishnaji Rao, Lions Club of Hyderabad Samarpan Director Lion Prem Chand Jain, coordinators Surya Bichukari and G. Venugopal, along with lecturers, professors and students, congratulated Prof. Surya Dhananjaya on receiving the award.
