Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress-led government of insulting government employees, mismanaging the state’s economy, and failing to deliver on election promises. Speaking at a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, KTR condemned the Chief Minister’s derogatory remarks against state employees who have been vocal about pending salaries and dues, labeling Reddy as the “most incompetent Chief Minister in independent India.”
KTR’s Critique of Revanth Reddy’s Remarks on Employees
KTR expressed outrage over Revanth Reddy’s comments targeting government employees who have raised concerns about unpaid salaries and pending dues. He accused the Chief Minister of attempting to portray employees as “villains” in the eyes of the public, a move he described as a “conspiracy” to deflect accountability. “The sacrifices of Telangana’s employees, particularly during the statehood movement, were instrumental in the formation of Telangana. For the Chief Minister to insult them is not only shameful but also an affront to their contributions,” KTR said.

Highlighting the BRS government’s record, KTR noted that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had provided a 73% fitment to employees, significantly improving their financial security. In contrast, he alleged that the Congress government has failed to clear pending Dearness Allowances (DA) and provide retirement benefits, leaving employees in distress. “Revanth Reddy has no understanding of the sacrifices made by employees. His remarks are painful and insulting to those who fought for Telangana, even at the cost of their jobs,” KTR added.

KTR also pointed out that employees are merely demanding the implementation of promises outlined in the Congress party’s election manifesto. “The Congress promised the moon during elections, but now they are humiliating employees for asking for what was pledged. This is intellectual bankruptcy,” he remarked.
Economic Mismanagement and “Bankruptcy” Claims
KTR tore into Revanth Reddy’s claims that Telangana is on the brink of financial collapse, calling them a reflection of the Congress government’s “intellectual bankruptcy.” He accused the Chief Minister of spreading falsehoods about the state’s debt and economic condition to cover up administrative failures. “Revanth Reddy’s statement that Telangana is bankrupt is unprecedented. No political leader in independent India has cursed their own state in this manner,” KTR said, describing the Congress’s decision to appoint Reddy as Chief Minister as a “grave mistake.”
Refuting Reddy’s claims, KTR cited data to argue that Telangana’s economy was robust under the BRS regime. He noted that the state was ranked number one in per capita income growth over the past decade and was a model for development. “When KCR took over, Telangana was 12th in per capita income. Under BRS, it became the top-performing state. In just 17 months, Congress has turned a prosperous state into chaos,” he said.
KTR also challenged the Congress government’s narrative on state debt. While the Congress initially claimed that the BRS government had accumulated ₹6 lakh crore in debt, they later revised the figure to ₹8.5 lakh crore. “Is Revanth Reddy running a government or a circus?” KTR quipped, pointing out that Telangana ranks 28th in state debt as per central government data presented in Parliament.
Unfulfilled Promises and Governance Failures
KTR accused the Congress government of making “reckless” election promises without any intention of fulfilling them, describing the Congress manifesto as the “biggest fraud of the century.” He highlighted the government’s failure to deliver on key promises, such as providing financial support to employees and citizens, while spending ₹200 crore on “beauty contests” and other non-essential activities. “There’s money for pageants, but none for employees’ salaries or retirees’ benefits?” he questioned.
He further criticized the Congress government for failing to maintain basic infrastructure and services. “Under KCR, Telangana had uninterrupted power and water supply. Why are these services faltering now?” KTR asked, accusing the Congress of reversing the state’s progress. He also pointed to a decline in revenue from stamps and registration, which dropped from ₹14,295 crore in 2023-24 to ₹14,000 crore in 2024-25, attributing it to “thoughtless decisions” by the Revanth Reddy administration.
KTR labeled Revanth Reddy a “thief” and questioned the source of his family’s wealth
In a particularly sharp attack, KTR labeled Revanth Reddy a “thief” and questioned the source of his family’s wealth. He alleged that the Chief Minister’s relatives had amassed significant assets, including thousands of acres of land and a pharmaceutical company in Lagacherla, while the state’s revenue was declining. “Revanth Reddy’s family wealth is growing, but Telangana’s income is shrinking. He must explain this to the people,” KTR demanded.
KTR also referenced Revanth Reddy’s alleged involvement in a cash-for-votes scandal, stating, “A man caught with bundles of notes—what is he if not a thief?” He accused the Congress of handing over the state’s reins to an “incompetent and dishonest” leader, warning that Telangana’s future was at stake.
BRS’s Achievements Under KCR
Contrasting the Congress government’s performance with the BRS’s tenure, KTR listed several achievements of the KCR-led government. He highlighted the construction of the Kaleshwaram project, which he described as a “lifeline” for Telangana, and the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme, which was 90% complete under BRS. KCR’s initiatives, such as the Rythu Bandhu scheme, which deposited ₹73,000 crore into the accounts of 70 lakh farmers, and the provision of 24-hour free power, were cited as transformative measures.
KTR also emphasized infrastructure development under BRS, including 36 flyovers in Hyderabad, the completion of the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro, and the construction of medical and nursing colleges, gurukul schools, and farmers’ platforms across villages. “KCR turned Telangana into a golden state. Revanth Reddy has undone this progress in just 17 months,” he said.
A Call to Action
KTR urged the Congress government to release a white paper on its 17-month tenure to account for its governance failures. He warned that the BRS would not tolerate insults to Telangana’s pride or its people. “We have endured personal attacks, but we will not stay silent if Telangana is cursed or disrespected,” he declared, threatening to “tear out the tongues” of those who defame the state or KCR.
He also called on Revanth Reddy to apologize to Telangana’s society for his “incompetent governance” and step down if he was unable to deliver. “If you can’t govern, resign. Stop blaming employees and citizens for your failures,” KTR said.
