The completion of 1,000 days of the Congress Government marks an important milestone in Telangana’s journey. These thousand days have not merely witnessed a change of government; they have restored the democratic spirit for which the people of Telangana struggled.
For ten years under the BRS, governance was concentrated in the hands of one individual and one family. Ministers, legislators, public representatives, the Opposition and even ordinary citizens were denied a meaningful voice. The Secretariat became inaccessible, democratic institutions were weakened and dissent was treated as disloyalty. The Congress Government has reversed that culture. The administration is now accessible, ministers engage with people, the Assembly debates public issues and citizens can express criticism without fear. Praja Vani and direct public consultations have brought governance closer to the people.
This democratic revival has been accompanied by transformative welfare. Free RTC bus travel has given women greater mobility, independence and substantial household savings. Gruha Jyothi provides free electricity up to 200 units to eligible households, while LPG cylinders at Rs. 500 reduce the burden on poorer families. Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage has been enhanced to Rs. 10 lakh, giving vulnerable families access to better healthcare.
Our Civil Supplies reforms have created a new standard in food security. Fine rice is being supplied at six kilograms per person to approximately 3.42 crore beneficiaries. Lakhs of deserving families have received new ration cards, followed by statewide distribution of modern smart ration cards. Indiramma housing assistance of Rs. 5 lakh is helping poor families realise their dream of owning a dignified home..
The Congress Government has stood firmly with farmers. Crop loans of up to Rs. 2 lakh have been waived, benefiting around 25 lakh farmers. Rythu Bharosa assistance has been increased to Rs. 12,000 per acre, while paddy procurement and the bonus for fine varieties have strengthened the rural economy. Agricultural labourers, women’s self-help groups and weaker sections have also been brought to the centre of policy.
Development has moved forward alongside welfare. Nearly 70,000 government jobs have been filled. Young India Skills University, Advanced Technology Centres, Integrated Residential Schools, irrigation works, roads, urban infrastructure and long-term plans for Hyderabad are laying foundations for future growth. All this has been achieved despite the enormous fiscal burden inherited from the previous BRS regime massive debts, off-budget liabilities, unpaid commitments and incomplete projects. Even while meeting heavy repayment obligations, the Congress Government has protected welfare expenditure and increased productive capital investment.
The BRS is free to agitate; that freedom itself proves democracy has returned. But it cannot erase the record. These 1,000 days have delivered accessible governance, social justice, food security, women’s empowerment, farmer welfare and sustainable development. Telangana has moved decisively from family rule to people’s rule and this journey will continue with greater determination.
