Hyderabad: MIDHANI Hosts Lecture on “Official Language Proposal in the Constitution and the Contribution of South Indians” As part of the closing ceremony for Hindi Month, celebrated in honor of Hindi Diwas 2025, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a Ministry of Defence, Government of India enterprise, organized a special lecture on the topic, “Official Language Proposal in the Constitution and the Contribution of South Indians.”

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Gopal Sharma, Professor of Linguistics, Arba Minch University, Ethiopia. The event was presided over by Dr. S.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Chairman and Managing Director of MIDHANI, with Dr. Gopal Sharma gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was also attended by K. Madhubala, Director (Finance), and P. Babu, Director (Production and Marketing).

In his address to the MIDHANI employees and students from BPDAV School,
Dr. S.V.S. Narayana Murty extended warm wishes for Hindi Diwas. He emphasized that Hindi is not only a language of communication but a symbol of India’s culture, unity, and identity. He highlighted the significance of the Constituent Assembly’s decision on September 14, 1949, to designate Hindi as the official language of India, a milestone that has shaped the nation’s linguistic landscape. Dr. Murty noted that Hindi has grown into one of the major global languages, with its reach further amplified by the digital age. Discussing Hindi’s role in science and technology, he stressed how the availability of scientific information in Hindi benefits large sections of society.

Dr. Murty also spoke of MIDHANI’s successful efforts in implementing Hindi as the official language in the organization, despite its technical nature and challenges in the ‘C’ category. He credited training programs, competitions, and incentive schemes for fostering a deeper connection with Hindi among employees. He reaffirmed MIDHANI’s commitment to advancing the use of Hindi in administrative, technical, and scientific fields, making it not only a language of heritage but also a driver of future progress.

Dr. Gopal Sharma, the Chief Guest, elaborated on the historical importance of Hindi’s inclusion as the official language in the Constitution, explaining that the decision was driven not only by administrative needs but also by a vision for national unity and linguistic harmony. He acknowledged the significant contributions of South Indian scholars, including Bengal Narasimha Rao, who played key roles in drafting the Constitution and ensuring that linguistic diversity was respected. Dr. Sharma particularly highlighted the efforts of Moturi Satyanarayana, the first chairman of the Language Committee, who advocated for a balanced Hindi-English policy.

He also praised other South Indian luminaries like N. Gopalaswami Iyengar, T.A. Ramalingam Chettiar, and T.T. Krishnamachari for their contributions to supporting and implementing Hindi policy. Dr. Sharma also recognized the role of the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, which promoted Hindi education and created widespread support for the language in South India. He concluded by stating that the success of the Official Language Policy is largely due to the visionary contributions of scholars and institutions from South India, reinforcing the importance of linguistic unity and respect for diversity in the country.

During the ceremony, K. Madhubala, Director (Finance), and P. Babu, Director (Production and Marketing), presented cash prizes to the winners of various competitions held throughout Hindi Month 2025, which took place from September 18th to October 18th. The winners were honored for their achievements in Hindi Typing, Speech, Vocabulary, Essay Writing, Unforgettable Memories, Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat, Singing, and Quiz competitions. Both Directors congratulated all the winners for their active participation.

On this occasion, the messages from the Honorable Home Minister and Defence Minister were read by Subhdeep Ghosh, Additional General Manager (In-Charge, Purchase), and Nishank Kumar Jain, Additional General Manager (Titanium, ICP & EBM), respectively.

Dr. G.R. Praveen Jyoti, Senior Medical Officer, Garima Ojha, Assistant Manager (Finance), and Umendra Singh, Senior Technical Assistant (Wide Plate Mill), also shared their insights on the Hindi Day celebrations at MIDHANI, highlighting the promotion of Hindi and the role of the Hindi Department in the organization.
The cultural program featured Hindi songs performed by MIDHANI employees Sai Baba, Gautami P. Varsha, K. Surekha, Nagaraju, and Vijaynath Kushwaha, while Dr. B. Balaji recited a humorous poem.
The closing ceremony began with a Hindi song performed by students from BPDAV School and concluded with the National Anthem. Dr. B. Balaji, Manager (Hindi Cell & Corporate Communications), anchored the program, with active support from the Hindi Section staff, including Ratnakumari, Junior Executive, and Vikas Azad, Hindi Translator.
