Hyderabad: South Central Railway celebrated the 80th Independence Day today. Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway hoisted the National flag and received the National salute by the RPF contingent at Railway Sports Complex Ground, Secunderabad. Satya Prakash, Additional General Manager, SCR; Ms. Aroma Singh Thakur, Inspector General – cum – Principal Chief Security Commissioner, SCR; Senior Railway officials, staff, family members and students from Railway school and college also participated in the celebrations. Cultural Program by Students of Railway Degree College, Junior College & Railway mixed high school and Commando show and Dog show by Railway Protection Force enthralled the audience and marked the Independence Day celebrations.

Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, extended his greetings to the South Central Railway workforce and their family members on the historic occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day. In his address, the General Manager paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the freedom fighters who secured the Nation’s independence. He stated that Independence Day is an occasion to remember their contribution and reaffirm our commitment towards the progress and development of the nation.

Highlighting the performance and achievements of South Central Railway during the first four months of the current financial year, the General Manager stated that the Zone has registered a Gross Originating Revenue of Rs. 4,060.57 crores, including freight earnings of Rs. 2,640.80 crores and passenger revenue of Rs. 1,236.88 crores. He stated that freight loading has gained encouraging momentum, with 30.593 million tonnes of different commodities transported during this period. Under Mission RAFTAR, the Zone has also undertaken the upgradation of open wagon speeds up to 100 kmph, he said. Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava stated that following the operationalization of South Coast Railway on 1st June 2026, South Central Railway now comprises of Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded Divisions, spanning 3,605 route kilometers. Despite the reorganization, the Zone has maintained its operational efficiency and commendable performance, he said.

Speaking on safety, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava stated that safety remains the foremost priority of South Central Railway. He informed that during the current financial year, track renewals have been undertaken over 135.22 kms, along with the completion of 20 Road Under Bridges, further strengthening operational safety. He stated that South Central Railway has also been honoured with the National S&T Award for Best Zonal Railway for its pioneering contributions towards the development of Kavach and Digital Interlocking.

Sanjay Kumar Srivastava stated that infrastructure development remains a key priority of the Zone. During the current financial year, tripling between Asifabad – Sirpur Kaghaznagar section has been completed, marking the completion of the important Kazipet – Balharshah Tripling Project, he said. In addition, doubling between Manyamkonda – Mahabubnagar, construction of the chord line between Lallaguda and Sitafalmandi A Cabin and gauge conversion between Amlakhurd – Tukaithad sections have also been completed, he added.

The General Manager informed that, in response to the continuous demand for enhanced passenger services, South Central Railway has introduced four pairs of new train services and regularized 31 pairs of special trains as permanent services during the current financial year. In addition, 75 special trains have been operated and 652 additional coaches have been attached to existing train services to cater to passenger demand.

Speaking on environmental sustainability, the General Manager stated that South Central Railway has expanded its solar power capacity to 13.34 MWp. He also stated that the Zone has maintained remarkable consistency under the Mission Zero Scrap initiative, generating substantial revenue which is 30 per cent more than the target set by the Railway Board. The General Manager expressed confidence that with the support and teamwork of the SCR family, the Zone will continue to progress and contribute to the growth of Indian Railways and the Nation.
