Hyderabad: As part of the Education Week, Sports and Well-being Day celebrated on Wednesday at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, CSTD Auditorium. The event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani.
In his Presidential remarks, Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani stated that the Government of Telangana announced the themes of innovation, inclusion, institutional excellence, and outreach as part of Education Week, and the university has been implementing such initiatives even before this announcement. He highlighted that the university has been actively promoting innovative academic and developmental programmes for the benefit of students and staff. To reduce stress and encourage a healthy work environment, sports activities were also organized for university employees.

The university has developed facilities such as playgrounds for sporting activities, open-air gyms and other infrastructure that supports physical fitness and well-being on the campus. He further informed that the university is transforming into a digital university and is planning to offer online programmes shortly to provide accessible education to everyone. Through its outreach initiatives, the university is continuously striving to provide educational opportunities to unreached and underprivileged sections of society.

Chief Guest B. Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, Telangana State Security Advisor (SSA) emphasized the importance of integrating sports with studies for the overall development of students. Earlier, sports were often considered secondary to academics, but the situation has now changed significantly. Today, sports persons are recognized for their physical fitness, mental strength, discipline, and leadership qualities. Participation in sports not only improves health but also contributes to wealth creation and personality development through professional opportunities.

Therefore, students should be encouraged to actively participate in sports alongside their academic pursuits. The state government is also introducing various policies and programs to strengthen sports infrastructure and support young talent. Initiatives like Young India Schools are excellent examples of promoting balanced education with equal importance to sports and academics. Such efforts will help in building a healthy, confident, and progressive younger generation for the betterment of the Nation.
