Hyderabad: Advocate Y. Babji has been unanimously chosen as President of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Chapter of the United Federation of Residents Welfare Associations (UFeRWAs), Telangana. He was elected at the Federation’s Annual General Meeting held at Alwal, Secunderabad.
Babji has extensive experience in the functioning of Residents Welfare Associations, beginning with his association with Baghlingampally RWA in the 1980s, followed by Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar RWA in the 2000s and more recently, as Convener of the Advisory Council of Dharani Nagar Residents Welfare Association, Kukatpally. The AGM was chaired by Dr. Rao VBJ Chelikani, Founder of UFeRWAs and CoRWA.
Babji will also serve as a Vice-President of the State Federation, with charge of its UN-Habitat affairs, and as a National Council Member of the Confederation of Residents Welfare Associations (CoRWA) of India.

The AGM also elected S Sridhar as President of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) Chapter and E Ramana as President of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Chapter. The Federation is strengthening its municipal-level structure following the trifurcation of Hyderabad into Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporations, with the objective of providing RWAs a coordinated platform to address civic and urban-governance issues and engage effectively with local authorities.
Babji has served the State Government in various capacities and was also a National-level functionary of the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) in the past. A Legal Practitioner and Public Relations Educator, he has taught Public Relations for several decades and is the Editor of Public Relations Voice. His elevation is expected to strengthen the Federation’s efforts to promote organised citizen participation, accountable urban governance and effective representation of residents’ civic concerns.
