Hyderabad: Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, organised an AI Workshop on “Data Strategy for Metallurgical Industry’s AI Journey“ at Hyderabad, bringing together eminent experts from Government, academia, industry and Defence Public Sector Undertakings to deliberate on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics and digital technologies in the metallurgical and manufacturing sectors.
Workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S.V.S. Narayana Murty, Chairman & Managing Director of MIDHANI. T. Ravi Kiran, IFoS, Commissioner (ESD), Government of Telangana, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Smt. K. Madhubala, Director (Finance), MIDHANI; P. Babu, Director (Prodn & Mktg), MIDHANI; and Smt. Spoorthy Reddy, IRS, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), MIDHANI, were also present on the occasion. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by an AI video presentation, welcome address by AGM(IT) AK Tiwari and opening remarks by the CMD, MIDHANI.

T. Ravi Kiran, IFos, Commissioner, ESD, Government of Telangana, delivering the keynote address, highlighted the growing significance of AI and Data-driven technologies in building resilient, future-ready industries and accelerating India’s journey towards technological self-reliance. He gave insight in to the data initiatives being implemented in Telangana Governance in the areas of child birth, govt schools, bills, taxes and medical records. He also explained Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) as India’s first state-led Digital Public Infrastructure designed for data sharing and AI innovation.

Dr. S.V.S. Narayana Murty, CMD, MIDHANI, while addressing the gathering, explained the metallurgical journey starting as an art form to designing a Digital twin of metal manufacturing process. He further added up the importance of using AI in process optimization, predictive maintenance and alloy design. Also underscored importance of embracing emerging
technologies and fostering innovation-led growth in strategic manufacturing.

Smt. K. Madhubala, Director (Finance), MIDHANI, stated importance of Data capturing from various sources, developing analytics and insights to reduce cost of production and enhance supply chain capabilities. P. Babu, Director (Prodn & Mktg), MIDHANI, emphasized the importance of adopting AI in the metal manufacturing industries and role of Analytics to take critical key decisions throughout the processes. Smt. Spoorthy Reddy, IRS, Chief Vigilance Officer, MIDHANI, emphasized the importance of data digitization in all the areas including process data and other supporting aspects like finance, purchase, marketing, HR, service streams.
Technical sessions featured distinguished experts from Academia, Corporate and Defence organisation- Dr. G. Phani Kumar, Professor-IIT Madras; Dr. Alankar Alankar, Professor, IIT Bombay; Dr. Abirami Sukumaran, Staff Developer Advocate, Google India and K.N.S. Pavan Kumar, Scientist-C, DYSL-SM. They shared valuable insights on advanced Data analytics and AI for Government & Defence organisations, Power-efficient and secure AI strategies, AI & Machine Learning protocols for materials & manufacturing innovations, Exploring & utilizing big process data by going beyond equipment OEM applications, AI implementation strategies in Defence PSUs and data-driven tools for advanced metallurgical applications.

Workshop had an engaging panel discussion on “AI in Core Metallurgical Industries“, to exchange ideas on leveraging AI for enhancing productivity, quality & operational efficiency and innovation across manufacturing ecosystems. MIDHANI’s AI initiative reflects its continued commitment to embrace emerging technologies and foster robust data-driven culture for strengthening India’s strategic metallurgical capabilities. “From Data to Discovery, From Innovation to Impact“, aptly captures the spirit of the workshop, reinforcing MIDHANI’s endeavor to transform data into actionable insights and innovation into national impact.
