Very Nice: Nalgonda Railway Station Being Redeveloped Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Hyderabad: Indian Railways is undertaking a comprehensive transformation through the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which envisions the redevelopment of stations across the nation to provide world-class facilities to passengers. In Telangana, 40 Railway Stations are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of over ₹2,000 crores. The initiative gained significant momentum when the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone for station redevelopment projects in the state during August 2023 and February 2024.

Nalgonda Railway Station, under Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway, is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹17.01 crore. The station caters to nearly 3,000 passengers daily and handles about 44 trains per day, including DEMU/MEMU services. It serves as a vital commuting hub for passengers travelling towards Hyderabad city, particularly to Secunderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampalli, for employment and business purposes.

Nalgonda Railway Station is classified as a Non Suburban Grade 4 station located in the southern part of Telangana. It falls under the Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway and is situated on the Nadikudi – Bibi Nagar section. The station plays a crucial role in connecting passengers from the region to Hyderabad city and other surrounding areas, thereby contributing significantly to regional mobility and economic activity.

The redevelopment works proposed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at Nalgonda station include construction of a 12 metre wide Foot Over Bridge, provision of additional cover over platforms measuring 3,309 sqm, development of circulating area with landscaping, platform surfacing over 9,657 sqm, and interior renovation of the concourse, VIP lounge, waiting halls, and toilets. The plan also encompasses installation of Divyangjan friendly facilities, new signages, modern furniture, and facade improvement to enhance passenger convenience and station aesthetics.

Several works have already been completed, including cover over platforms, installation of lifts, platform surfacing, approach road development, parking facilities, circulating area improvement, and renovation of waiting halls. The on-going works, such as the Foot Over Bridge, facade improvement, and Divyangjan facilities, are progressing expeditiously. This redevelopment substantially improves passenger amenities, accessibility, and overall travel experience. This initiative reflects the commitment of Indian Railways to modernize infrastructure and deliver world class services to its passengers, thereby transforming railway stations into vibrant centres of convenience and connectivity.
