SCR administers Environmental Pledge as part of World Environment Day 2026 in line with theme of “Climate Change–Focusing of the Challenges to Mother Earth”

Hyderabad: South Central Railway organizes a Curtain Raising Ceremony of World Environment Day-2026, under the theme “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth” today in Rail Nilayam Secunderabad at Headquarters level. Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager/SCR administered the Environmental Pledge and led the Signature Campaign. Principal Heads of the departments, staff & RPF participated and expressed their commitment towards environmental protection.
As per the directives of Railway Board, a 3 weeks long programme starting from 15th May to 5th June is being launched across all divisions, stations, colonies, workshops, field units, and administrative offices of South Central Railway. This year, Indian Railways is also taking major outreach and advocacy activities for mass mobilization on ‘Mission LiFE’ with the aim to sensitize people about the impact of behavioral change on the Environment.
Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager quoted that this Environmental Pledge is not just a ceremonial pledge, but also a reminder to save ourselves by taking care of the environment. World Environment Day reminds us of our collective responsibility to protect Mother Earth through sustainable and eco-friendly practices and this year, a special emphasis is being laid on climate change awareness, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” clean air and green spaces, scientific waste management including e- waste, and achieving Net Zero Emissions in Railways.
Earlier, Vinod Kumar, CEnHM speaking on the occasion stated that South Central Railway has been continuously taking initiatives in afforestation, elimination of single-use plastics, waste management, water and energy conservation, and promotion of renewable energy that have positive impact on the environment.
