Hyderabad : National Institute of Tourism & Hospitality Management (NITHM), Gachibowli Hyderabad, conducted Indira Mahila Shakthi Canteen Management Training of Batch 8 (24 candidates trained) from 05th Feb – 14th Feb’25. As of the 08th batch successfully completed a total of 214 women have been trained so far, and SERP is expected to achieve their target of 300 Indira Mahila Shakti women trained in canteen management and a total of 150 canteens to be opened by end Mar’25.

This 10 Days Program is Sponsored by Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Department, Government of Telangana, Hyderabad. The program gives livelihood training to women in bulk cooking, helping and encouraging them to open their own canteens and become successful entrepreneurs. Learning for 10 days is on various menus such as Varieties of Rice, Tea Varieties, Telangana Snacks and Sweets, Basic Gravies, Biryani and Savory.


Apart from their hands on practical learning, the theory learning was imparted on Hygienic practices in food handling; Menu Planning & Food Preparation; Presentation and Plating; Techniques; Permits and Licenses; Pantry and Canteen Management; Food Services and also Soft Skills and Grooming Maintenance that are all very important for business.

The Valedictory was conducted by Chef A. Mahesh and Hameed DPM SERP; along with Sr. Asst. Prof. Mrs. Michelle J Francis, Training & Placement Officer from NITHM. Hameed interacted with the women and asked them about the training program and informed them of their canteen space allotment in the coming month through their district collectors.

Government is initiating solar plants for the running of their canteens, even giving rent free spaces in some govt. buildings and spaces. Already Canteens are being managed by IMS women at Government offices, MRO’s, Collectorate, Hospitals, Schools, Colleges, Mahila Samiti offices, Railway Stations and Bus stops. All certified IMS certified women should meet their DRDO’s with a requisition letter and take a photograph with their district collector within the next week. However, the raw materials and kitchen handling is the responsibility of the women who are going to run the canteen. He wished them all the best for their canteen opening.

Shri. W Johnson: Director of SERP, due to other official work could not be a part of the closing but instructed his DPM to make an account of the women’s doubts and help them out with their issues regarding their need for financial help for their canteen setup. The Indira Mahila Shakthi Canteen Management Training many women are being given an opportunity to become successful entrepreneurs. The program was coordinated by Sr. Asst. Prof. Mrs. Michelle J Francis from NITHM,under the guidance of Sri Zendage Hanumant Kondiba, IAS Director of Tourism and NITHM.
