Hyderabad : Strongly Condemning the Congress party for imposing emergency on the Country, BJP state president N Ramchander Rao ridiculed LoP Rahul Gandhi for carrying a copy of the constitution which was crushed by his own grandmother former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi on this day. Addressing a meeting on the occasion of “ Anti-Emergency Day” organized at state party office here, he alleged that Rahul Gandhi is now touring the entire country holding a copy of the Constitution despite having absolutely no understanding of it or the moral right to speak about the constitution as it was a day of “ Murder of Democracy”.
He said the Congress party has a dark history of suppressing democracy in the country by altering the sacred Preamble of the Constitution through the 42nd Amendment, a Constitution carefully crafted by the immense hard work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Lashing out at the former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi, Rao said she had imposed emergency in 1975 for her selfish political gains and to protect her PM seat. He pointed out that even though the Allahabad High Court declared Indira Gandhi’s election invalid and the Supreme Court placed restrictions on her powers, she refused to step down from the Prime Minister’s post. Instead, she forced the then-President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed to sign the proclamation at midnight to impose the Emergency.

He expressed grief that the Congress party, in a single day, trampled upon the sacred spirit of the Constitution and stripped the citizens of their fundamental rights. Pointing out atrocities committed by the Congress government Rao severely condemned the inhumane atrocities perpetrated by the Congress during the Emergency. He recalled that during those dark days, nearly 220,000 people including top leaders of Jansangh, BJP , RSS across the country were illegally jailed and 35,000 were detained under the draconian MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act). Under the leadership of Sanjay Gandhi, nearly 1.2 crore people were subjected to forced sterilization.

BJP state chief also fired salvos at the Congress for displaying absolute dictatorship by completely crushing the freedom of the press, imposing strict censorship on the media, banning legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s songs on All India Radio because he refused to sing in favor of the Emergency and banning movies like ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’. Taking a dig on Rahul Gandhi carrying the Constitution book everywhere Rao questioned whether Rahul Gandhi was unaware of history as his own grandmother attempted to change the Constitution and altered the Preamble through the 42nd Constitutional Amendment. He asserted that the Congress party, which violated the Constitution and trampled on citizens’ fundamental rights, has no moral right to speak about the Constitution
Alleging that the Congress party is always against the reservations for Backward classes, he said that despite being in power for decades, the Congress party never conducted a caste census in the country, whereas the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving forward with a clear resolve for a comprehensive caste census for the first time since 1931. He called upon the current generation of youth to learn about the sacrifices and fighting spirit of democracy warriors who fought against the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi and went to jail. These included national leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L. K. Advani, Morarji Desai, Jayaprakash Narayan, Bandaru Dattatreya, C.H. Vidyasagar Rao, K.R. Malkani (who faced 2 years of imprisonment), as well as leaders like Sambamurthy, Venkataramani, Ashok Yadav, and many others.

It was shameful that the Congress party has not apologized to the people of the country till date for trampling the constitution by imposing emergency for selfish political gain, he said and demanded that it should tender a public apology immediately.
