South Central Railway’s Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) Emerge as Guardians of Passenger Safety
Hyderabad: Indian Railways is one of the world’s largest public transport systems, carrying around 20 million passengers an average per day. While advanced technology, modern infrastructure and efficient operations keep trains moving, it is the unwavering commitment of frontline employees that ensures every journey is safe, secure and passenger-friendly. Among these frontline personnel, Ticket Checking Staff serve as the face of Indian Railways. Their responsibilities extend far beyond verifying the ticket. Every day, they assist passengers in extending comfort rail journey by ensuring only authorised passengers are boarding the train, adhere to railway rules & regulations, respond to emergencies and often become the first responders during critical situations.
Beyond Ticket Checking
The role of a TTE includes a wide range of passenger-centric responsibilities. Apart from checking tickets, they manage reserved accommodation, allot vacant berths as per rules, assist senior citizens, women, children and Divyangjan passengers, guide passengers during operational disruptions, and help maintain discipline on board travel. During festivals and peak travel seasons, Ticket Checking Staff play a crucial role in crowd management, ensuring smooth passenger movement and a safe travel environment. They also contribute significantly to address the grievances, curb unauthorized travel thereby enhancing passenger comfort and security. Apart from these activities, they play a vital role during any untoward accident/ incident to disseminate passenger information to Railway authorities, to assist the affected passengers and safeguarding their belongings.
Ticket Checking Heroes of Secunderabad Division
The Ticket Checking Staff of South Central Railway’s Secunderabad Division have repeatedly demonstrated that their service goes far beyond routine duties. Their alertness, compassion, courage and quick decision-making have helped save lives, rescue vulnerable passengers, protect railway property and strengthen passenger confidence.

Rescuing Children
Sai Ram, Travelling Ticket Inspector, displayed exceptional commitment by intercepting a child abuse suspect at LakdikaPul Station and handed over to RPF. Later, a case was registered by GRP under POCSO. He also played a key role in tracing and safeguarding several runaway and missing children at Begumpet, Secunderabad stations and in trains coordinating with Child Welfare authorities to reunite them safely with their families.
Saving Lives
M. Sai Shankar, Travelling Ticket Inspector displayed extraordinary presence of mind while working Train No. 12861 Exp on 02nd June, 2026, by initiating an emergency alarm chain pull to rescue a passenger who had slipped into a dangerous position between a moving train and the platform at Dornakal Station. Later, the passenger was shifted to hospital with the help of RPF in 108 ambulances for treatment of moderate injuries.
In another remarkable incident, M. V. Subba Reddy, Travelling Ticket Inspector administered timely CPR to a passenger who suffered a cardiac arrest while approaching Nizamuddin station on 02nd June 2026 in Train No. 12285 Duronto Exp. On reaching Nizamuddin station the ambulance arranged and the passenger was shifted to hospital. The timely help rendered by the on duty TTI saved a precious life.
Ensuring Fire Safety
Uttam Singh, Travelling Ticket Inspector noticed smokes emanating from a train toilet on board Train No. 18045 East Coast Exp while passing between Dornakal and Gundrathimadugu stations on 29th May 2026, immediately stopped the train by Alarm chain pulling and initiated emergency safety procedures, preventing a potentially serious incident.
Similarly, Balraju, Travelling Ticket Inspector, while working Train No. 12714 Sathavahana Exp, on 08th July 2026, swiftly reacted after noticing the activation of smoke detector and promptly enforced anti-smoking regulations, preventing potential hazards and ensuring passenger safety.
Strengthening Railway Security
Ticket Checking Staff was crucial in supporting law enforcement agencies. In this direction, M. V. Subba Reddy, Travelling Ticket Inspector, successfully detected an attempted narcotics smuggling case on board Train No. 11020 Konark Exp and alerted the security agencies, facilitating timely action against illegal activities. The accused persons were handed over to RPF at Kazipet for further action.
Honesty That Wins Public Trust
Displaying exemplary integrity, Ms.Racheal Ranjitha, Travelling Ticket Inspector recovered valuable corporate electronic equipment left behind by a passenger at Begumpet Station on 22nd June 2026. After proper verification, the valuables were safely returned to the rightful owner.
Promoting Clean Rail Travel
As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Ticket Checking Staff actively participated in cleanliness awareness campaigns across MMTS services and major railway stations. Passengers were sensitized on proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness at stations and on board trains..
Maintaining Discipline On board
While the majority of passengers cooperate with railway staff, isolated instances of unruly behaviour occasionally disrupt the travel environment. In such cases, Indian Railways initiates action under the relevant provisions of the Railways Act and applicable rules, including penalties and prosecution wherever warranted, to safeguard the comfort and security of fellow passengers.

Every train journey is made safe not only by tracks, locomotives and technology, but also by the dedication of thousands of railway employees working behind the scenes. The Ticket Checking Staff work tirelessly to maintain order and security on board, it is the responsibility of passengers do their part by respecting rules, securing luggage, and cooperating during ticket checking.
