WE REQUIRE IN ODL IS RAM GOVERNANCE MODEL AND AMBEDKAR VISION IN THE EDUCATION NEEDED: Prof VS Prasad

·        BRAOU organised Prof G Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture

Hyderabad: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) and Prof. G. Ram Reddy memorial trust, Hyderabad jointly organized Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture at its campus as part of 92nd Birthday Celebrations of founder Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU, Prof. G. Ram Reddy on Saturday.

Prof .V. S. Prasad, Formerly Vice Chancellor (Acting), IGNOU, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU &   Director, NAAC, delivered a lecture on “Four Decades of India’s First Open University Through the Past into the Future” Prof. Prasad spoke about the difficulties encountered in the process of starting the distance education system in the country and explained how Prof. Ram Reddy faced them head on and established this university.

He said that Ambedkar Open University, which was formed in this way, has become a guide for the establishment of many universities across the country today. What we require in ODL is ‘Ram Governance Model’ – a model practiced by Prof. G. Ram Reddy and Prof. Ram G. Takwale as Vice Chancellors of Open Universities. This is a tested model in Open University governance. The important features of the model include: leading by example, identifying, nurturing and encouraging talent, enabling and recognizing performance and networking for institutional development. The operating systems, in this model, are driven by integrity, sense of purpose and pragmatic wisdom.

He said that there is a need to choose the Vision (Bhim path) suggested by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for the spread of higher education and move forward. It was suggested that in the coming days, services to students should be expanded, quality higher education should be provided to the poor people, courses should be designed to be useful to students and focus should be placed on own funds.

Prof. K. Seetharama Rao, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU, Presided over the function. Prof. Rao said that the father of distance education Prof. G. Ram Reddy’s vision is far-sighted and his sincerity is compatible with the spread of higher education. He also said to make higher education accessible to rural students, study material English medium books designed to be useful for competitive examinations have been launched. It is known that Telugu medium books are already available.

Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Director (Academic) attended as guest of Honour for the program he introduced about the program and Chief Guest.

Prof. G. Haragopal, Secretary, Prof G. Ram Reddy Memorial Trust said his trust is organizing commemorative lectures to pass on the services of Prof. G. Ram Reddy for the spread of distance education to the future generations.

The lecture was attended by Prof. G. Ram Reddy wife Smt. Prameela Ram Reddy and family members, Prof. Sudharani, Prof. Madhusudan Reddy, Prof. Anand Power, Prof. Vaddanam Srinivas, Prof. Gunti Ravi, Prof. Pushpa Chakrapani, Dr. LVK Reddy, Dr. N. Rajani, former faculty of the University Prof. V. Venkaiah, former Registrar, Prof. C. Venkataiah, Prof. S. V Rajasekhar Reddy, Prof. Subbar Rao, Dr. Santhosh Reddy, Prof. Kishtaiah, Prof. Kishan Rao, Dr. G. Mallareddy, Trust Members, Directors, Heads of Branches, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff members also participated.
