Hyderabad: Eminent educationist, intellectual and administrator Prof. M. Kumar Mulugam, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, has been selected for the Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Excellence Award 2026, instituted on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day and the birth anniversary of former President of India and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Raj Narayan Mudiraj, State President of the Telangana State branch of the Telangana Intellectuals Forum, informed this today in a press release.
Dr. Raj Narayan further said that this year Prof. Kumar Mulugam has been selected as the sole recipient of this prestigious award from the state of Telangana. The award will be presented at a special felicitation ceremony to be held on 4th September, 2026 at 10:00 am at the VC Lodge Hall, Osmania University. On this occasion, Prof. Kumar will be felicitated in the presence of professors and academicians with a shawl, memento, garland and citation.
It is worth mentioning that Prof. Kumar, serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, is widely known as an eminent academician and researcher in Civil Engineering. He has rendered dedicated service in the field of education, especially in higher education, for more than 30 years. At present, he is working as a Senior Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, and has made significant contributions in both teaching and research.
Prof. Kumar has published more than 100 research papers in international and national journals. He has also been associated with more than 90 OER registrations and has guided several Ph.D. students. He has received many prestigious awards and honours, including the Best Teacher State Award by the Government of Telangana in 2018, the Government of Telangana Engineering Award for the year 2018, and the Visvesvaraya Best Faculty Award by Smart Infra Trust of India in 2019.

Prof. Kumar obtained his undergraduate degree from Osmania University, postgraduate degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. His outstanding research papers were recognized at national and international levels during 2010 and 2014. From 2018 to 2021, Prof. Kumar served as Principal of the prestigious University College of Engineering. During his tenure, he led several technological reforms, including automation of the college’s activities and academic and administrative processes.
Dr. Raj Narayan Mudiraj further said that Prof. Kumar has earned honour and recognition through his dedicated service in various academic and administrative positions and his significant contributions to higher education, teaching, research and institutional development.
