Hyderabad: It gave me immense sense of responsibility taking part in the program organized on the occasion of the death anniversary of Srikanthachari, the first martyr of Telangana Malidasha movement, at this great university of such repute. Osmania University has a prominent place in Telangana history. Osmania comes to mind when anyone talks of student activists and student martyrs. The university stood tall and fought whenever anyone tried to dominate Telangana.
During agitation and even now, the university has been watching, who created the movement, who lost their lives, who formed JACs and fought and now who is ruling the state. We all have been witnessing it even through these 8 years. Despite knowing the danger of a chance of losing power in Andhra Pradesh, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi created the state of Telangana since she felt the sacrifices of the martyrs should not be wasted and also due to her good intention of fulfilling the 60-year-old desire for Telangana.
TRS has promised in its manifesto that it will form an advisory committee consisting of activists, intellectuals, poets, artists etc. and do whatever is good for Telangana. We all believed them. In the first meeting of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, it was stated that 1200 family members of the martyrs of the Telangana mali dasha movement will be given government jobs, Rs. 10 lakh financial assistance, double bedroom houses and 3 acres of land for agriculture. We all supported this irrespective of the parties. Even after 8 years, government could not recognize more than 550 martyrs. In the documents related to some of the identified martyrs, the address is unknown. Could there be anything more shameful than this? Imagine the commitment level of Srikantachari if he could remain unfazed when fire engulfed him in full and kept shouting “Jai Telangana”.
He wished to die again for Telangana if he has another life. Didn’t government remember Srikanthachari’s words “I die and if Telangana isn’t achieved, I will take birth again and sacrifice my life”. Sunil Naik, a student of Kakatiya University the other day said, “I am not going to die”. He committed suicide by saying that these rulers who came to power promising jobs should be exposed. From Srikanthachari then to Sunil Naik today, there are many sacrifices. All the students should take note of the conspiracies of the government so that such sacrifices, which should go down in the pages of world history, get the respect they deserve.
Even though they tried to stop me to enter OU in the past, I came and supported the students. Is it enough if only your stomach is full and your house is fine? Revanth Reddy questioned the state government about whether they care about the unemployed and youth in Telangana. The Biswal Committee appointed by the state government said that there are 1.92 lakh vacancies in Telangana. Why has not the filling of those vacancies started even after 9 years? According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Telangana is in the top 5 states with the highest unemployment rate in the country. It ranks first when compared to the southern states. The unemployment rate in the state is 2 percent high compared to the national average. The unemployment rate in the state is 8.8 percent and the same is 6.8 percent in the country, according to CMIE data. The government has not reviewed the problem despite its severity.
The government has closed 5,648 single-teacher schools in tribal areas. Isn’t this keeping Dalits and tribals away from education? The previous governments thought to provide education to every poor person by establishing a primary school per km, an upper primary school per 3 km, a high school per 5 km, a junior college for each Mandal, an engineering college for the revenue division, and a medical college for each district, the present Telangana government is diluting such ambitions. The universities like Osmania, Kakatiya, Mahatma Gandhi, Palamuru, etc. are suffering as hundreds of teaching and non-teaching posts have been vacant for years. The government’s conspiracy behind undermining the universities needs to be observed.
The time has come to analyze whether the ambitions of Telangana achieved that was formed due to 60 years of agitation. When there is a serious problem, all politicians look towards OU. I wonder why OU is not organizing programs for all these years. But this is the time to begin and give oxygen to the final phase of the Telangana movement with this program.
Telangana’s voice was heard by the world in the first phase of the movement. The martyrs and activists of the second phase of the movement won the state of Telangana. He called upon the students that the time has come to prepare for the final phase of the movement to fulfil the aspirations of Telangana. An evil kingdom is running in Telangana. Even during the 60 years of Andhra rule, such worst things have not taken place. In the past, police were afraid to come into OU. But now the police are coming to OU and oppressing them, this is evidence of the present regime. The monarchy’s mentality is the reason behind the continuation of oppression in Telangana.
They said if Telangana forms, there will be no more bloodshed. But there have been encounters. Where has KCR’s Naxalite agenda gone? In which Naxalite agenda is it written that positions should be given to the family members? In which agenda is it mentioned that party defections should be encouraged, families of martyrs should not be given a chance to be public representatives, throttle the voice of opposition? We secured Telangana state for freedom, social justice and self rule. Even Nizam Nawabs brought in development. If it is just for development agenda, why was there a struggle against the Nizam? When rulers of undivided Andhra brought in development, why was there a movement for Telangana? Struggles took place against dominance and repression. KCR has suppressed social justice. A state where there is no social justice is not a state at all. KCR will be burnt to ashes if there is another agitation, don’t underestimate Telangana society KCR. You will be chased and forced to run with shoes in hand. Just yesterday, November 29 was celebrated as Deeksha Diwas and. But on the same day Srikantachari sacrificed himself. If there is a discussion on that day, it should be about the martyrdom of Srikantachari and nothing else.
Even the contract of Martyrs Pillar was given to Andhra contractors. It was started with an estimate of Rs. 62 Crores but the cost shot up to Rs. 200 Crores. What was supposed to be finished in 15 months didn’t even finish in 6 years. One need not wonder if the cost escalates to Rs. 300 crores from Rs. 200 crores. Reconstruction of Yadadri temple was also done under the direction of the Andhras. Tell us what to do for the betterment of Telangana. I will take the responsibility of doing it. Unlike others, I don’t have the mindset of saying something and doing something else. We have the responsibility of striving for the self respect of Telangana. We will include your suggestions in our Manifesto. Telangana society gave everything to KCR. Nothing more needs to be given. Revanth Reddy said youth will get jobs only if KCR is dethroned.
