Police Excesses and Forced Land Acquisition Spark Outrage
Hyderabad: In a shocking series of incidents highlighting the oppressive measures of the Telangana state government, tribal women, farmers, and marginalized communities from Lagacharla have become victims of forceful land acquisition. These individuals, who have lived and thrived on their lands for decades, are now subjected to police brutality and governmental tyranny.
Late-night police operations involved cutting off electricity, forcefully entering homes, and detaining male members indiscriminately. Reports detail how the police harassed women, including pregnant women, with some alleging instances of sexual misconduct. Villagers claim they were assaulted, threatened, and humiliated. Many male members have fled the village in fear, while others remain untraceable.
The victims, clinging to their ancestral lands, have expressed profound pain, with one pregnant woman, Jyothi, recounting how her husband was brutally beaten and arrested. Children have been separated from their families, and entire households have been left traumatized.
“Even if we die, we will not give up our lands,” declared one of the farmers. The land, they said, is being taken to benefit private pharmaceutical projects connected to the Chief Minister’s family, leaving them with paltry compensation.
KTR Condemns Atrocities and Calls Out Political Hypocrisy of Rahul Gandhi
Speaking alongside the victims at a press conference in Delhi’s Constitution Club, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) condemned the Telangana government under Congress Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He accused the Congress-led administration of oppressing marginalized tribal communities and highlighted the hypocrisy of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership.
“Rahul Gandhi often talks about protecting the welfare of farmers, tribals, and women. Yet, his own party’s Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, presides over atrocities in Telangana. Are the cries of tribal women and farmers in Kodangal inaudible to Rahul Gandhi?” KTR asked.
He called out Congress’s duplicity, emphasizing how the same party that claims to oppose crony capitalism is now grabbing tribal lands to facilitate private projects. “Rahul Gandhi criticizes Crony Capitalism but is silent on Revanth Reddy’s pharma land-grabbing. This is Congress’s double standard,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi and BJP Leaders Urged to Act
KTR questioned the silence of national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the Telangana atrocities. “Is Telangana invisible to national leaders? Does the plight of tribals in Lagacharla not deserve the same attention as incidents in Manipur or Dharavi?” he asked.
He urged both the BJP and Congress to break their silence and address these pressing issues. “Rahul Gandhi claims to be a friend of the marginalized, but his actions show otherwise. Revanth Reddy’s tyranny must end, and Rahul Gandhi must hold his Chief Minister accountable,” he demanded.
The press conference concluded with an emotional appeal from the victims. They urged Rahul Gandhi, Narendra Modi, and other leaders to visit Lagadcharla and witness their suffering firsthand.
“Mr. Gandhi, you said you would come when children called you. Now tribal women and farmers are calling you. Will you come?” they asked.
The victims warned that if justice is delayed, they would camp in Delhi until their demands are met. “We have nowhere else to go. Our lands are our lives, and we will fight until the end,” they vowed. This incident raises grave concerns about the state of democracy and governance in Telangana, calling for immediate national intervention.
Victims Take Their Fight to National Commissions
Earlier in the day, the victims met with the National Human Rights Commission, SC/ST Commission, and Women’s Commission to register their grievances. They detailed the midnight raids, arrests, and harassment, pleading for justice.
The victims shared their harrowing experiences, with one elderly farmer saying, “For nine months, we have been protesting peacefully. Instead of hearing us, they send police to harass us. They arrest our men, assault our women, and force us to leave our lands. How can we survive without our lands?”
Support for the Victims from BRS Leadership
BRS MLC Satyavati Rathod expressed solidarity with the victims, stating, “The Congress government has crossed all limits of tyranny. The Chief Minister’s brother threatens farmers with death if they refuse to surrender their lands. Women and children are not spared from this brutality.”
She emphasized that the BRS party will provide unwavering support to the victims. “We will not rest until justice is delivered. The entire nation must know about the atrocities happening in Telangana under Congress rule,” she declared.
