Telangana Government Simplifies Minority Status Certificate Process For Minority Educational Institutions

Hyderabad : Telangana Government agrees to simplify Minority Status Certificate process for Minority Educational Institutions following high-level meeting with NCMEI Chairman

In a significant development for minority educational institutions in Telangana, Hon’ble Minister for Minorities Welfare, Government of Telangana, Mohammed Azharuddin, has accepted the proposal to delink the involvement of the Education Department in the processing of applications for Minority Status Certificates (MSC).

The decision was taken during a crucial meeting held today at the State Secretariat, attended by a delegation from the Telangana Private Schools Forum (TPSF), Prof (Dr) Shahid Akhter, Hon’ble Officiating Chairman, National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), New Delhi, and Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi.

Mohammed Akhter Shareef, President, TPSF, made a detailed presentation highlighting the prolonged delays and procedural hurdles faced by minority educational institutions in obtaining Minority Status Certificates from the State Government. He urged immediate reforms to streamline the process in accordance with the provisions of Article 30 of the Constitution of India and judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

Prof (Dr) Shahid Akhter strongly advocated for complete delinking of the Education Department from the MSC issuance process, stating that the involvement of the Education Department often leads to unnecessary scrutiny and delays, contrary to the spirit of constitutional protection granted to minority institutions.

After detailed deliberations, Hon’ble Minister Shri Mohammed Azharuddin accepted the proposal in principle and directed the concerned officials of the Minorities Welfare Department to immediately initiate steps to amend the existing procedure. The Minister instructed that new draft regulations be prepared in consultation with all stakeholders, including representatives of minority educational institutions, TPSF, NCMEI officials, and other concerned associations.

The TPSF delegation and all participants welcomed the positive and proactive approach of the Hon’ble Minister and expressed gratitude for the swift decision.

Speaking on the occasion, Mubashir Mohiuddin, Executive Member, TPSF, thanked Hon’ble Minister Shri Mohammed Azharuddin and Prof (Dr) Shahid Akhter for their invaluable support and commitment towards safeguarding the constitutional rights of minority educational institutions.

The decision is expected to significantly ease the process of obtaining Minority Status Certificates and ensure greater autonomy for minority educational institutions across Telangana.
