హైదరాబాద్ : దూరవిద్య పితామహుడు, ప్రఖ్యాత విద్యావేత్త ప్రొఫెసర్ జి. రాం రెడ్డి 96వ జయంతిని డా. బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ లో ఘనంగా నిర్వహించారు. ఈ సందర్భాన్ని పురస్కరించుకొని యూనివర్సిటీ క్యాంపస్ లో ప్రొఫెసర్ జి. రామ్ రెడ్డి స్మారకోపన్యాసాన్ని నిర్వహించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో కృష్ణకాంత హండికి స్టేట్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ (అస్సాం) వైస్ ఛాన్సలర్ ప్రొ. రాజేంద్ర ప్రసాద్ దాస్ ముఖ్య అతిథిగా హాజరై “నూతన విద్యా విధానం 2020 యుగంలో భారతీయ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీలను పునఃసృష్టించడం” అనే అంశంపై ప్రసంగించారు.
ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ దూర విద్యా విధానంలో అభ్యసించే విద్యార్ధుల ఉపాధి సామర్థ్యం పెంచడానికి అవసరమైన సాంకేతికతను విశ్వవిద్యాలయాలు సమకూర్చుకోవాలని సూచించారు. డిజిటల్ అక్షరాస్యత, కమ్యూనికేషన్ మరియు ప్రతీ అంశంపై నిశిత పరిశీలన వంటి నైపుణ్యాలను అందిపుచ్చుకోవాలని ప్రొఫెసర్ రాజేంద్ర ప్రసాద్ దాస్ ఉద్గాటించారు. విద్యార్ధుల అభ్యసనానికి అవసరమైన టెక్నాలజీని విరివిగా వాడడం, రియు మైక్రో – క్రెడెన్షియల్స్ కోర్సుల రూప కల్పన, మల్టీమోడల్ లెర్నింగ్, AI-ఎనేబుల్డ్ అధ్యయనంపై దృష్టి సారించాలని ఆయన సూచించారు. పరిశ్రమలు – విద్యా సంస్థల మధ్య అవగాహన ఒప్పందాలు జరగాలని, పరిశ్రమకు అవసరమైన విధంగా విద్యార్ధుల్లో స్కిల్ పెంపొందే విధంగా పాఠ్యాంశాల రూపకల్పన జరగాలని వివరించారు. విద్యార్ధులకు ఎక్కువగా ఇంటర్న్షిప్లు, సర్టిఫికేషన్ల కోసం, ఉపాధి కల్పనకు ఈ అవగాహనా ఒప్పందాలు కీలకంగా మారుతాయని అది అటు విద్యార్ధులకు ఇటు విద్యా సంస్థలకు ఉపయోగకరంగా నిలుస్తుందని వివరించారు. దూర విద్యలో అభ్యసించే విద్యార్ధులకు సమ్మిళిత, నాణ్యమైన విద్య అందుబాటులోకి తెచ్చినప్పుడే ప్రొఫెసర్ రెడ్డి ఆశయ కృషి చేసినట్లు అవుతుంది అని ఆ దిశగా దేశంలోని అన్ని విద్యా సంస్థలు కృషి చేయాలని ప్రొఫెసర్ రాజేంద్ర ప్రసాద్ దాస్ పిలుపునిచ్చారు.

ఈ కార్యక్రమానికి అధ్యక్షత వహించిన విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ఉపకులపతి ఆచార్య ఘంటా చక్రపాణి మాట్లాడుతూ గ్రామీణ ప్రాంత పేద విద్యార్ధులను ఉన్నత విద్యా వంతులుగా తీర్చిదిద్దిడంలో దూర విద్య పితామహుడు ప్రొ. జి. రాంరెడ్డి దూర దృష్టి అనుసరనీయం అన్నారు. ప్రొ. రామ్ రెడ్డి నిర్దేశించిన మార్గంలోనే తమ యూనివర్సిటీ నడుస్తోందని, అందులో భాగంగానే సమాజంలోని అన్ని వర్గాలకు ఉన్నత విద్యను అందించాలనే లక్ష్యంతో అనేక కార్యక్రమాలు చేపట్టి దిగ్విజయంగా అమలు చేస్తున్నట్లు వివరించారు. రానున్న రోజుల్లో మరిన్ని కార్యక్రమాలను చేపట్టనున్నట్లు వెల్లడించారు. విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో ప్రొ. రాం రెడ్డి విగ్రహాన్ని ఏర్పాటు చేసేలా నిర్ణయం తీసుకుంటామని వీసీ ప్రొ. ఘంటా చక్రపాణి వెల్లడించారు.

దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ఓపెన్ డిస్టెన్స్ లెర్నింగ్ రంగంలో అత్యుత్తమ కృషి చేసినందుకు ఇందిరా గాంధీ నేషనల్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ (ఇగ్నో) వీసీ ప్రొ. ఉమా కాంజీలాల్ కు ప్రొ. జి. రామ్ రెడ్డి ఎక్సలెన్స్ అవార్డ్ – 2025 ను ప్రదానం చేశారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా అవార్డు గ్రహీత ప్రొఫెసర్ ఉమా కంజిలాల్ మాట్లాడుతూ…. ఈ అవార్డు దూర విద్యా వ్యాప్తిలో తన భాద్యతను మరింత పెంచిందని పేర్కొన్నారు. అవార్డు ను ఇగ్నో విద్యార్ధులకు, సిబ్బందికి అంకితం చేస్తున్నట్లు వెల్లడించారు.
అనంతరం ప్రొ. జి. రామ్ రెడ్డి జీవిత చరిత్ర రేఖా చిత్ర పుస్తకాన్ని ప్రొ. జి. రాంరెడ్డి ట్రస్ట్ కార్యదర్శి ప్రొ. జి. హరగోపాల్, ఆవిష్కరించారు. అనతరం ట్రస్ట్ కార్యదర్శి ప్రో. జి. హరగోపాల్, విశ్వవిద్యాలయ మాజీ ఉపకులపతి ప్రొ.వి.ఎస్. ప్రసాద్ మాట్లాడుతూ ప్రొ. రామ్ రెడ్డి పేద ప్రజల అభివృద్ధికి చదువు ఒక్కటే మార్గం అని తాపత్రయ పడేవారాని, దానికి దేశంలో దూర విద్యా వ్యాప్తే మార్గం అని భావించారన్నారు. పేదల అభున్నతికి ఆయన దూర దృష్టి, దార్శనికతను వివరించారు. దూరవిద్యా వ్యాప్తికి ప్రొ. జి. రామ్ రెడ్డి చేసిన సేవలను కొనియాడారు. ఉన్నత విద్యా వ్యాప్తిలో ఆయన ఆలోచనా విధానం భవిష్యత్ తరాలకు దిక్సూచీల నిలిచిందని పేర్కొన్నారు. తమ ట్రస్ట్ ను ఓపెన్ యూనివర్సిటీ లో విలీనం చేయడం ద్వారా మరిన్ని మంచి కార్యక్రమాలు చేయడానికి అవకాశం ఏర్పడిందన్నారు..

BRAOU organised Prof G Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture
Hyderabad: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) and Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Trust, Hyderabad jointly organized Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture at the University campus as part of the 96th Birthday Celebrations of the founder Vice-Chancellor of BRAOU, Prof. G. Ram Reddy on Thursday.
Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das, Vice-Chancellor, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Assam attended as chief guest and delivered a lecture on “Re-envisioning Indian Open Universities in the Era of NEP 2020” expressed the legacy of Prof. G. Ram Reddy, the visionary architect of India’s open learning movement, we are reminded that great institutions evolve by embracing change with integrity and imagination. NEP 2020 presents precisely such an opportunity a historic moment to re-envision the Open University as a transformative force capable of shaping India’s educational destiny.
Open Universities were built on the principles of access, inclusivity, equity, affordability, and flexibility. Over the decades, they have democratized higher education for millions who, for various socio-economic, geographic, or personal reasons, would otherwise remain outside the formal higher education system. Prof. Reddy envisioned a nation where education opens doors. Today, it is our responsibility to ensure that those doors open wider than ever before.
The foremost priority is to redefine the value proposition of Open Universities. For decades, access, affordability, and flexibility formed their core identity, opening the doors of higher education to millions. However, in the NEP era, this identity alone is no longer adequate. The emphasis must shift decisively from an access-driven model to a learner-success–driven model one that prioritises engagement, retention, competency development, and demonstrable learning outcomes.
Only then can Open Universities be recognised not as alternative pathways, but as vibrant, learner-centric institutions offering rich academic experiences. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that Open Universities rise to this moment with clarity of purpose, academic excellence, and unwavering dedication to the millions who look to them not only for degrees, but for dignity, opportunity, and a better life.
Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU, presiding over the function said that the father of distance education Prof.G. Ram Reddy’s vision is far-sighted and his sincerity is compatible with the spread of higher education.
Later, award ceremony organized to conferred Prof. G. Ram Reddy Award for Excellence in Distance Education for the year 2025 for outstanding contribution to the field of Open Distance Learning across the country to Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The award recipient Prof.Uma Kanjilal said the award game more responsibility towards commitment to expand ODL system in India. Also she dedicated her award to the students and staff of IGNOU.
The Guests of Honor Prof.G.Haragopal, Secretary, Prof G.Ram Reddy Memorial Trust; Prof. V. S. Prasad, former Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU said the Trust is organizing commemorative lectures to pass on the services of Prof. G. Ram Reddy for the spread of distance education to the future generations. He said that Prof. G. Ram Reddy has achieved such popularity that he cannot be left out of the history of higher education in India.
Prof. G. Pushpa Chakrapani, Director Academic; Dr. L. Vijaya Krishna Reddy, Registrar of the University also spoke on the occasion. Prof. E. Sudha Rani, Director GRCR&D explain the importance of the program and introduced the Chief Guest to the audiences. Prof. D. Rabindranath Solomon proposed vote of thanks.
The lecture was attended by Prof. Ram Reddy’s wife, Smt. Prameela Ram Reddy and other family members, Former Vice-Chancellors of the University Prof. K. Seetharama Rao; Prof. G. Ram Reddy Trust Members, Directors, Heads of Branches, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff members of the University also participated.
