Bridging Borders and Science: Study Abroad Program Concludes with International Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance
St. Francis College for Women Hosts International Conference on “Novel Therapeutics to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance: Advancing Collaboration, Innovation & Sustainability” on 9th January 2026.
Hyderabad : The Department of Microbiology, St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, Ohio, USA, organised an international academic initiative that commenced with a Study Abroad Program in association with Case Western Reserve University from 28th December 2025 to 8th January 2026 and culminated in ICMIC’26 – International Conference on “Novel Therapeutics to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance: Advancing Collaboration, Innovation & Sustainability” on 9th January 2026. Dr. P. Roselin, Head, Department of Microbiology & Ms. Priyusha Pokala, CWRU, Ohio were the Program Coordinators. The integrated program aimed to immerse students in scientific inquiry and promote global research collaboration along with cultural exchange.

The conference brought together leading experts, re-searchers, academicians and industry professionals to explore sustainable solutions through collaboration and innovation. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Uma Joseph, Principal of St. Francis College for Women. In her address, she highlighted the importance of collaborations , critical global challenges and urged participants to pursue innovative research that promotes sustainability and societal well-being.

The event was convened by Dr. P. Roselin, Head, Department of Microbiology. She provided an overview of the conference’s objectives and emphasized its significance in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. This event marks a significant milestone in fostering global partnerships and advancing sustainable solutions for global challenges. The conference featured a keynote address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Navin Pawaskar, Director, JIMS Hyderabad, highlighting recent advances in antimicrobial research through his talk titled “From Microcosm to Macrocosm: An Ecological Approach to the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Challenge”.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Joveeta Joseph, Head of Microbiology services, LVPEI Network, as Guest of Honour who spoke about One Health framework that recognizes the interconnectedness of environmental, animal and human health, with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) emerging as a critical global threat. Dr. K. Madhuri, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Nalgonda, was the resource person for a technical session during the Conference.

The conference also featured release of conference proceedings, and paper presentations showcasing recent advances in antimicrobial resistance. The Valedictory session was presided over by Prof. Uma Joseph, Principal, St. Francis College for Women, who emphasized the importance of international exposure and research-driven learning. The event concluded with certificate distribution and student feedback.
