Hyderabad : Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, Hon’ble Retired Judge, Supreme Court of India inaugurated B. R. Ambedkar International Institute for Dialogue on Governance and Equity (BRiiDGE) at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Campus on Wednesday.
Justice Sudharshan Reddy emphasized that the institute’s title, BRiiDGE, resonates closely with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s profound thoughts and ideologies. He pointed out that equity, in the context of Ambedkar’s vision, carries multiple layers of meaning. Babasaheb’s contributions extend far beyond being the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and advocating for universal adult suffrage. His impactful work in education, economics, and policy has shaped the nation’s progress. One of his landmark reforms, the abolition of caste discrimination under Article 70, remains a critical turning point in India’s social and legal history.
Justice Reddy also suggested that educational programs be revised to include a deeper exploration of Ambedkar’s lesser-known contributions, especially his transformative ideas on Buddhism and social justice. Additionally, there is a pressing need to engage more widely with Ambedkar’s thoughts in diverse fields like governance, human rights, and social equity, fostering a more comprehensive understanding of his legacy in modern education.
Kaki Madhava Rao, IAS (Retd.), Former Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh attended as Distinguished Guest for the program. Madhava Rao, expressed that the initiative reflects a progressive thought grounded in the foundational principle of equity. He underscored that the core of Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s work was to uplift the deprived and marginalized sections of society, for whom he dedicated his entire life.
Rao emphasized that Ambedkar’s sacrifices were not just theoretical but were manifested in his relentless fight against social injustices, particularly the caste system. He further remarked that anyone who betrays the Constitution, which was crafted with the vision of equality and justice for all, is a traitor to the very principles that Dr. Ambedkar fought for. The spirit of Ambedkar’s ideology calls for constant vigilance against any attempt to undermine the rights and dignity of the marginalized, and this initiative aims to preserve and promote those ideals.
Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU presided over the program. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani highlighted the crucial distinction between equity and equality, stressing that social justice, liberty, caste, language, education, and empowerment are integral components of equity. He emphasized that BRiiDGE serves as a platform to dismantle the invisible walls that divide society, aiming to bridge gaps in awareness and education. The core mission of BRiiDGE is to provide equal opportunities for all, fostering an inclusive society.
Prof. Chakrapani also raised concerns about the current state of educational institutions, which, he believes, are merely issuing certificates without imparting essential lessons on constitutional morality, vision, and values. Educational institutions must take responsibility for nurturing these principles to ensure that the next generation upholds the spirit of the Constitution.
Furthermore, he urged continued engagement from a global perspective, such as Columbia University, which has partnered with BRiiDGE. As part of this collaboration, five students will be selected annually for study opportunities at this prestigious institution. In addition, the program will feature annual conventions and conferences to facilitate a broader exchange of ideas. To support this initiative, Rs. 100 Crores was allocated by the State Government from the SC Sub-Plan for development of infrastructure. The Vice Chancellor also requested the Telangana Government to allocate Rs. 10 Crores annually for the next five years to sustain and expand the BRiiDGE program, ensuring its long-term success and impact on future generations.
Guests of Honour, Vice Chancellor, Osmania University Prof. Molugaram Kumar highlighted the importance of bridging the gaps between education, social development, equality, and equity, particularly through a virtual structure that fosters broad and inclusive perspectives. He emphasized that Osmania University is fully committed to supporting various academic research initiatives, fellowships, and activities aimed at advancing these goals. Prof. Kumar further noted that these efforts are part of the university’s broader vision to contribute meaningfully to social change, academic excellence, and the promotion of equality and equity in society.
Additional Director General of Police, Telangana Police and Commissioner of Future City Sudheer Babu, IPS stated that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is an inspiring figure for every student, offering a powerful example of resilience and determination. He encouraged students to never give up on their pursuit of success, no matter the obstacles they face. Reflecting on Ambedkar’s life, he emphasized how it serves as a profound message to society about overcoming stigma and humiliation.
Prof. Anupama Rao, Professor of History & MESAAS, Convenor, Ambedkar Initiatives, Columbia University, New York addressed the participants as keynote speaker and initiated a dialogue on “ Ambedkar in His Time and Ours”.
Prof. Anupama Rao emphasized that BRiiDGE is not just an institute, but a platform for knowledge sharing, dedicated to advancing the principles of social justice and equity. She highlighted that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s vision of an anti-caste society is the way forward, a future where caste-based discrimination is eradicated. Dr. Ambedkar’s relentless fight for Dalit rights remains central to understanding the social anthropology of caste, a field in which his extensive archives offer invaluable insights. These archives, Prof. Rao noted, should be made accessible to the public to prevent apathy and ensure that Ambedkar’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Additionally, the institute will serve as a repository for Ambedkar’s writings, which reflect his role not only as a legal scholar and social reformer but also as a political economist with deep insights into social and economic systems. Prof. Rao further emphasized the importance of global thinking and social investigation in addressing issues of inequality. She also pointed out that India’s model of reservation stands as a critical step toward achieving both social and economic equality, urging a closer examination of how politics and caste intersect in shaping national policies.
Prof. V. S. Prasad emphasized that dialogue is a unique feature of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s social philosophy, which encourages open and constructive conversations on issues of justice, equality, and human rights. He pointed out that Ambedkar’s ideas remain strikingly relevant in today’s context, where social inequalities and discrimination still persist in many forms.
Prof. R. Limbadri, former Chairman of TSCHE, expressed concern over the forceful imposition of the so-called Indian Knowledge System, stressing that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s vision is crucial in the present context. He pointed out the lack of vigilance regarding caste discrimination and the absence of reservations in private universities, perpetuate social inequalities. Prof. Limbadri emphasized the need to incorporate Ambedkar’s philosophy and ideology into the educational curriculum, while also building trust through initiatives like BRiiDGE to foster a more inclusive and equitable academic environment.
Prof. Bangya Bukya stated that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s philosophy and ideology have had a profound impact on both global and national politics, challenging traditional structures and advocating for social justice. He criticized the National Education Policy (NEP), calling it a “trap” that threatens to undermine the integrity of education by promoting a narrow, exclusionary agenda. Prof. Bukya further warned that the central government’s attempts to communalize educational institutions pose a serious threat to the inclusive, secular values that Ambedkar fought to protect, urging a collective resistance to these regressive moves.
Prof. Ravinder, former Vice Chancellor, shared that Osmania University has established research centers and libraries named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to honour his legacy as a global scholar. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gaps in research by linking Ambedkar’s work with the issues faced by the OBC community, fostering deeper academic exploration of these critical areas. Mallepalli Laxmaiah, Centre for Dalit Studies, emphasized the need for action-oriented research to address ongoing social challenges. He pointed out that antagonism still persists in India, and BRiiDGE has a crucial role in bridging this gap by promoting inclusive and transformative solutions.
Prof. Mallesh Sankasala, former Vice Chancellor of Satavahana University, highlighted the complex dynamics within the Dalit community, pointing out that differences exist between Tamil Dalits and Uttar Pradesh Dalits. He stressed the need for a collective understanding and unity across regional divisions to strengthen the broader Dalit movement and address common social injustices. Prof. V. Krishna from the University of Hyderabad warned that the central government’s efforts to communalize educational institutions threaten the inclusive and secular values that Dr. Ambedkar championed throughout his life.

హైదరాబాద్ : దేశ పురోగతిలో అంబేద్కర్ కృషి అనిర్వచనీయమని సుప్రీమ్ కోర్టు రిటైర్డ్ జడ్జ్ జస్టిస్ సుదర్శన్ రెడ్డి పేర్కొన్నారు. బుధవారం డా. బి ఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ సార్వత్రిక విశ్వవిద్యాలయం ప్రాంగణంలో బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ ఇంటర్నేషనల్ ఇన్స్టిట్యూట్ ఫర్ డైలాగ్ ఆన్ గవర్నెన్స్ అండ్ ఈక్విటీ (బ్రిడ్జ్) పరిశోధనా కేంద్రాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు.
జస్టిస్ సుదర్శన్ రెడ్డి మాట్లాడుతూ డాక్టర్ బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ లోతైన ఆలోచనలు, భావజాలాన్నీ ఈ సంస్థ ప్రతిధ్వనిస్తుందనే ఆశాభావాన్ని వ్యక్త పర్చారు. అంబేద్కర్ దార్శనికత సమానత్వం సమగ్రతను కలిగి ఉంటుందన్నారు. విద్య, ఆర్థిక శాస్త్రం, పరిపాలన విధానంలో ప్రభావవంతమైన కృషి చేసారని వెల్లడించారు. ఆర్టికల్ 70 కుల వివక్షతను రద్దు చేయడం ఒక పెద్ద సంస్కరణ అని పేర్కొన్నారు. బిఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ అన్వేషించని రచనలపై విద్యా కార్యక్రమాలను సవరించాలని సూచించారు. డాక్టర్ అంబేద్కర్ బౌద్ధమత పరివర్తనలను విస్తృతంగా చర్చించడానికి ఈ కేంద్రం ఉపయోగపడాలని ఆకాంక్షించారు. బి ఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ ఇతర ఆలోచనల గురించి, ఆయన దూర దృష్టితో తీసుకున్న నిర్ణయాల గురించి విస్తృతంగా చర్చించాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని వెల్లడించారు.
ఉమ్మడి ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ మాజీ ప్రధాన కార్యదర్శి కాకి మాధవరావు, ఐ.ఏ.ఎస్., మాట్లాడుతూ అణగారిన వర్గాల కోసం అంబేద్కర్ తన జీవితాన్ని అంకితం చేశారని చెప్పారు. అంబేద్కర్ త్యాగాలు కేవలం సైద్ధాంతికమే కాకుండా సామాజిక అన్యాయాలకు, ముఖ్యంగా కుల వ్యవస్థకు వ్యతిరేకంగా, అన్ని కులాలు సమానమేననే భావన వచ్చేలా నిరంతరం పోరాటం చేశారన్నారు. అందరికీ సమానత్వం, సమ న్యాయం అనే దృక్పథంతో రూపొందించిన రాజ్యాంగాన్ని ఎవరైనా మోసం చేస్తే, అంబేద్కర్ పోరాడిన మౌళిక సూత్రాలకే ద్రోహులు అవుతారని వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. అంబేద్కర్ భావజాల స్ఫూర్తి, ఆదర్శాలను కాపాడటం, ప్రోత్సహించడం మనందరి లక్ష్యమని వెల్లడించారు.
విశ్వవిద్యాలయ వైస్-ఛాన్సలర్ ప్రొ. ఘంటా చక్రపాణి కార్యక్రమానికి అధ్యక్షత వహించి మాట్లాడుతూ సామాజిక న్యాయం, స్వేచ్ఛ, కులం, భాష, విద్య, సాధికారత వంటివి సమానత్వంలో అంతర్భాగమని పేర్కొన్నారు. అవగాహన, విద్యలో అంతరాలను తగ్గించడమే లక్ష్యంగా, సమాజాన్ని విభజించే అదృశ్య గోడలను కూల్చివేసేందుకు బ్రిడ్జ్ (BRiiDGE)ఒక వేదికగా పనిచేస్తుందని వెల్లడించారు. అందరికీ సమాన అవకాశాలను అందించడం, సమ్మిళిత సమాజాన్ని పెంపొందించడమే ప్రధాన లక్ష్యమని పేర్కొన్నారు. ఎస్సీ సబ్-ప్లాన్ కింద ఈ కేంద్రాన్ని, కార్యక్రమాన్ని కొనసాగించడానికి, విస్తరించడానికి రాబోయే ఐదు సంవత్సరాల పాటు ఏటా రూ. 10 కోట్లు నిధులు కేటాయించేలా తెలంగాణ ప్రభుత్వాన్ని కోరామన్నారు. రానున్న రోజుల్లో ఈ అంతర్జాతీయ పరిశోధనా కేంద్రం అన్ని దేశాల పరిశోధకులకు మార్గదర్శిగా నిలువనుందని, ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా గుర్తింపు పొందిన సామాజిక పరిశోధకులతో పలు కమిటీలను ఏర్పాటు చేసి బ్రిడ్జ్ సేవలు ప్రపంచ వ్యాప్తంగా విస్తరించేలా చర్యలు చేపట్టనున్నట్లు వెల్లడించారు.
