Hyderabad : Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy shared a home-cooked meal with a beneficiary family in Suryapet on Friday evening, marking the launch of the state’s ambitious free fine rice distribution scheme. The lunch, prepared using high-quality fine rice provided under the scheme, was hosted by Paladugu Bujjamma and Venkataiah at their residence in the Ward II of Suryapet town.
The gesture was part of a larger statewide initiative where public representatives are visiting the homes of beneficiaries to participate in meals and celebrate the rollout of the free rice program. The scheme, officially launched on Ugadi day in Huzurnagar constituency on March 30, is being celebrated across Telangana with enthusiasm.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that 3.10 crore people across the state – 84% of the population – would receive 6 kg of fine rice free of cost each month. He said the initiative was a testament to the state government’s strong commitment to food security and welfare.
He added that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would also join in by sharing a meal with a beneficiary family in Bhadrachalam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami, after participating in the Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam on April 6.

“Public representatives from all parts of the state will be dining with beneficiaries to show our collective commitment to this welfare program,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said. “There can be no greater assurance of food security than providing free, high-quality rice to the poor. This is a major step in fulfilling that goal.”
The minister reiterated that the government’s resolve was to ensure that all underprivileged families in Telangana receive quality fine rice free of cost, underlining it as one of the most significant welfare schemes currently being implemented.
