North Telangana Results Expose BRS–BJP Understanding

Hyderabad : K Kavitha stated that 40 candidates of Telangana Jagruthi and All India Forward Bloc were elected in the municipal elections, proving that people are ready to support new and alternative politics. Though officially recorded as 33 seats, technical issues with B-Forms resulted in 7 more winners, taking the total to 40. It was observed that people voted for the Indian National Congress mainly due to the absence of a strong alternative.

In Vaddeppally, the alliance received a clear mandate, but attempts are being made by Congress to lure (trap) elected representatives. In Narayanpet, an offer for the Vice-Chairman post was made, and the matter has been left to local leadership.

The leaders alleged serious violations of election laws during Panchayat and Municipal elections through misuse of government machinery, while the Election Commission remained silent. She criticised Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for comparing present results with Congress’s opposition-era performance instead of its own tenure in power.

It was further alleged that in North Telangana, BRS indirectly supported the BJP, indicating a possible alliance between the two parties. The leaders also objected to BRS extending support to the CPI without being asked.

She asserted that only Telangana Jagruthi and HMS are genuinely fighting for the rights of Singareni workers and announced that both organisations will work together in the upcoming Singareni elections. They pointed out that after the Indian National Congress came to power, not a single new coal mine has been opened, leading to a sharp decline in worker strength from 60,000 to 40,000. They further stated that the so-called Naini Block scam is merely a dispute among contractors and has no connection to workers’ welfare.

Statements by Ambati Jojireddy, State Convener, All India Forward Bloc

Speaking at the press meet, Ambati Jojireddy said it was encouraging that people elected Forward Bloc leaders who contested in association with Telangana Jagruthi, and affirmed that both organisations will continue to work together in the future. He clarified that in Vaddeppally, the municipality was jointly won by Forward Bloc and Telangana Jagruthi, and urged the media not to create any confusion regarding the result.

He stated that the BJP does not have a real majority in Karimnagar and alleged that Bandi Sanjay spent nearly ₹30 crore during the elections. He claimed that without such expenditure, BJP would not have secured even a single seat.

Jojireddy reminded that the All India Forward Bloc was founded in 1939 by Subhas Chandra Bose, and said that describing its candidates as “independents” reflects a lack of political awareness. He asserted that 40 seats were won without spending money, emphasising that Forward Bloc believes in ideology and public support, not money power.

Statements by Riyaz Ahmed, General Secretary, HMS

Speaking at the press meet, Riyaz Ahmed alleged that the Ramagundam MLA resorted to intimidation and rowdyism against their candidates and that attempts were made to forcibly induct winning candidates into other parties. He stated that despite these pressures, their candidates did not succumb to threats.

He said that the CPI has completely lost its presence in North Telangana, failing to win even a single seat, while the BRS fielded 60 candidates but managed to win only 16.

Riyaz Ahmed asserted that future elections in coal belt areas will favour only those who genuinely work for workers, accusing most political parties of prioritising contractors over labourers. He announced that HMS, Telangana Jagruthi, and All India Forward Bloc will jointly fight for workers’ rights in the coming days.
