Sports and arts help women to deal with challenges: Speakers
Representatives of two generations belonging to two different fields Jayanthi Jayasimha (sports and social service) and Ashrita Vemuganti Nanduri (film and performing arts) have called upon students to find time to acquire extra-curricular skills to deal with real time challenges in their lives.
Hyderabad: Addressing a programme organised as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations at MNR University’s Fasalwadi campus on Friday, the 85-year-old Jayanthi, better half of the late Cricket legend ML Jayasimha said that girls should master the art of creating their own space. “We haven’t lagged behind. We have to keep up with the changing times and take up sports and arts to relieve stress while boosting our morale,” she said.
Jayanthi, who runs a cricket academy in memory of his husband, said that women should be leaders for a better society. “Don’t feel shy in expressing your thoughts. Come up with questions without any hesitation,” she observed.

Film actress and Bharatanatyam teacher, who featured in nearly a dozen films, including the blockbuster Bahubali, Ashrita underlined the need of mental health in the ‘big bad world.’ She explained how extra-curricular activities would help improve focus and confidence to face challenges in women’s lives.

She cautioned students to be wary of social media’s magic. “It is a made up world. Don’t get carried away by what you’ve seen on social media. They are away from the reality and you should make use of your time to acquire new skills,” Ashrita said. Amidst a big round of applause, she said that a homemaker is the real hero in this world.

A nearly two-hour programme, including a lively Q and A session, was well received and hugely appreciated by students and faculty. Dean of School of Engineering and Technology Dr Kiran and faculty members Dr Usha M, D.Tahera Begum, Dr Ravi, Dr Nagesh and others took part in the celebrations.
