Dy CM Bhatti, Ministers hold review meeting at SLBC accident site near Domalapenta
Uttam Kumar Reddy condemns opposition for politicising SLBC tunnel tragedy
Nagarkurnool: Eleven national and state agencies, including the Indian Army, Navy, Marcos Commandos, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), MORPH, Singareni, HYDRAA, Geological Survey of India (GSI), Navayuga and L&T tunnel experts, and the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), are working in a coordinated manner to rescue the eight workers trapped inside the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district, said Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.
The Minister assured that every available resource is being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the trapped workers. He emphasized that the operation, now in its fourth day, is being carried out with the highest level of urgency and priority, with expert teams from across the country engaged in the mission.
On Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and local MLA Dr. Chikkudu Vamshi Krishna visited the site and conducted a high-level review meeting with senior officials overseeing the rescue efforts. The ministers assessed the ongoing rescue operations and discussed the challenges being faced by various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Singareni rescue teams, the Indian Army, and the Indian Navy, which are tirelessly working to save the trapped workers.
Army Lieutenant Colonel Vikas, Marcos from the Navy, NDRF Commandant Prasanna, Deputy Commandant Sukhod, SDRF Regional Fire Officer Sudhakar Rao, Sadanandam from Singareni, Cooper from L&T, GSI Director Shailendra Kumar, Special Officer to the State Government Arvind Kumar, JVLN Kumar from Narayana Team, Anshukal Khed, Director-in-LFO from MORTH, Siddharth from Proboscope, Firoz Qureshi from Rat Mines, Pankaj from JP Associates, Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department Ajay Kumar, Sathyanarayana (E.E.), and D.E. Srinu, among others, participated in the review meeting.
Addressing the media, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reaffirmed that the government is fully committed to bringing the trapped workers to safety. “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is personally monitoring the situation, and under his guidance, we are utilising every possible measure to ensure a successful rescue operation. Experts from across the country, with extensive experience in handling such crises, have been brought in. Elevent specialised agencies are actively engaged in the mission, working round the clock to overcome the challenges,” he said.
The Minister also noted that past disaster management strategies from across the country had been reviewed to implement the best possible rescue plan. “We have thoroughly studied similar past incidents and learned valuable lessons to ensure that we execute this rescue with the highest level of expertise and precision,” he added.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted the difficulties being encountered in the rescue efforts. “The increasing water flow inside the tunnel, silt accumulation, and heavy debris are creating major obstacles for the rescue teams. Despite these challenges, our personnel are displaying extraordinary dedication, working continuously without rest. We are deploying high-powered pumps to remove the floodwater, but the conditions remain extremely difficult,” he explained.
To explore alternative approaches, he stated that experts are assessing the feasibility of drilling from the top and side of the tunnel while ensuring all necessary safety precautions. “We are constantly evaluating every possible method to reach the trapped workers while prioritising their safety,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy held discussions with Border Security Force General Harpal Singh via phone to brief him on the SLBC incident and seek his expertise. “General Harpal Singh acknowledged the complexity of the situation and assured his full support in providing technical expertise and assistance. He also noted that such a challenging rescue operation had never occurred before in the country, making this an unprecedented crisis,” the Minister informed.
Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly condemned the opposition for attempting to politicise the tragedy, calling their comments “irresponsible and shameful.” “This is a natural calamity, yet opposition leaders are trying to spread false narratives and mislead the public. In the past, when seven people died in the Kaleshwaram incident or eight perished in the Srisailam power plant accident, no one from the ruling party engaged in such baseless allegations. Now, when the government is working tirelessly to save lives, the opposition should act responsibly and cooperate instead of indulging in political mudslinging,” he said.
He urged political parties to rise above politics and prioritise the humanitarian aspect of the crisis. “At this critical moment, constructive suggestions and cooperation are welcome, but baseless allegations and blame games are deeply regrettable,” he added.
Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that the SLBC tunnel is a crucial project that had been neglected for ten years under the previous BRS government. “This is one of the longest tunnels in the world, without any intermediate outlets spanning 45 kilometres, out of which 35 km has been completed. Once finished, this project will provide a lifeline to the Nalgonda district, transforming it into a green belt and offering a permanent solution to fluoride contamination,” he explained.
He stated that the unfortunate incident should not overshadow the importance of completing the project. “Despite this setback, we remain committed to ensuring the safe completion of SLBC and delivering its benefits to the people of Telangana,” he assured.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that the Government of Telangana remains steadfast in its mission to bring the trapped workers to safety. “We are leaving no stone unturned. Every resource, every expert, and every advanced method available is being deployed. The government stands firm in its commitment to saving lives and ensuring the safety of its people.”

ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ పూర్తయితే గ్రావిట్ ద్వారా 30 టీఎంసి లు నీరు నల్గొండ జిల్లాకు అందించి.. జిల్లాను సస్యశ్యామలం చేస్తాం. ఫ్లోరైడ్ తో ఇబ్బంది పడుతున్న లక్షల మంది జీవితాలను మార్చే ప్రాజెక్ట్ ఎస్.ఎల్.బీ.సి. ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ ద్వారా 30 టీఎంసిల నీళ్లు ఎలాంటి విద్యుత్ గానీ, మోటార్లు గాని లేకుండా కేవలం గ్రావిటీ ద్వారా వొస్తుంటే.. ప్రతిపక్షాలు ఓర్వలేకపోతున్నారు.
ఇది అనుకోకుండా జరిగిన ప్రమాదమని అమెరికన్ రాబిన్స్ కంపెనీ ప్రతినిధి, ప్రపంచంలో టాప్ టన్నెల్ నిపుణులు గ్లెన్స్ గారు చెప్పారు. ఇది భారత దేశ చరిత్రలో 3 వ టన్నెల్ ప్రమాదంగా నిపుణులు చెబుతున్నారు. ఇలాంటి టన్నెల్ ప్రమాదం ఉత్తరఖాండ్ లో జరిగింది. అక్కడ రెండు చోట్ల ఎగ్జిట్స్ ఉండటం వల్ల టన్నెల్ లో చిక్కుకున్నవారిని కాపాడటం సులువైంది. కానీ, ఇక్కడ ఒకసైడ్ మాత్రమే ఉండటం వల్ల ప్రమాదంలో చిక్కుకున్నవారిని కాపాడటం కాస్త ఇబ్బందిగా మారింది.
ఈ ప్రమాదంలో చిక్కుకున్న వారిని కాపాడేందుకు జీయోలాజికల్ నిపుణుల సలహా మేరకు చర్యలు తీసుకుంటున్నాం. మాదంలో చిక్కుకున్నవారిని బయటకు తెచ్చేందుకు చెయ్యాల్సిన అన్ని మార్గాల్లో ప్రయత్నం చేస్తున్నాం. ముఖ్యమంత్రితో చర్చించి మరింత ముందుకు వెళ్లేందుకు కావాల్సిన చర్యలను చేపడుతాం.
