Hyderabad : Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University has emerged as a national leader in AI-driven and digital education, taking a major leap today under the global digital vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Sri A. Revanth Reddy. In a historic development, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL)—a first-of-its-kind collaboration in Asia and the first such comprehensive partnership by COL anywhere in the world. CM congratulated the Vice Chancellor of BRAOU for bringing a global facility to Hyderabad and his idea to transform teaching and learning.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy. The MoU was formally signed by Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice Chancellor of BRAOU, and Prof. Peter Scott, President and CEO of COL.

This historic partnership is the first of its kind in Asia and also the first such comprehensive collaboration undertaken by COL anywhere in the world, positioning Telangana and BRAOU at the forefront of global digital education innovation.

Under this MoU, COL will support BRAOU in:
Establishing AI-based Digital Labs at BRAOU.
Developing a robust and integrated Learning Management System (LMS) for seamless digital teaching and learning.
Creating Virtual Labs to strengthen hands-on, technology-enabled learning experiences.
Delivering mass-scale faculty development programmes in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Pedagogy.
Standardizing statewide digital infrastructure to facilitate uniform, interoperable systems across Telangana’s higher education institutions.
Designing job-relevant micro-credentials and courses for all universities in Telangana, aligned with emerging skill and workforce demands.
These initiatives will collectively anchor the Integrated Digital Education Academy (iDEA) at BRAOU—a pioneering digital hub that will transform teaching, learning, and research, expanding equitable access to high-quality education across Telangana and beyond.
The MoU signing was part of the visit of Professor Peter Scott to BRAOU on November 17 and 18, 2025. Professor Scott is globally renowned for his contributions to open and distance learning and for leading technology-enabled educational reforms.
The ceremony was graced by Professor Jagathy Raj, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Open University, who commended the initiative and emphasized its national importance for Open and Digital Universities.
Dr. K. Keshava Rao, Advisor to the Government of Telangana, attended the event and appreciated BRAOU’s leadership in advancing digital transformation in higher education.
Several academic and administrative officers of BRAOU were present on the occasion, including Prof. Pushpa, Director (Academic), Prof. Rabindranath, Prof. Pallavi, Prof. Anand Pawar, Dr. LVK Reddy, Registrar along with other faculty members and officials.
