హైదరాబాద్ : డా. బి. ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ సార్వత్రిక విశ్వవిద్యాలయంలో భారత మాజీ ఉప ప్రధాన మంత్రి బాబు జగ్జీవన్ రాం జయంతిని పురస్కరించుకొని సోమవారం విశ్వవిద్యాలయం ప్రాంగణంలో “ఆధునిక భారతదేశ అభివృద్ధిలో జగ్జీవన్ రాం పాత్ర” అనే అంశంపై ప్రత్యేక ఉపన్యాస కార్యక్రమాన్ని నిర్వహించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమానికి విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ఉపకులపతి ఆచార్య ఘంటా చక్రపాణి ముఖ్య అతిథిగా పాల్గొని ప్రసంగించారు.
ఆచార్య చక్రపాణి మాట్లాడుతూ బాబూ జగ్జీవన్ రాం సామాజిక న్యాయం, అణగారిన వర్గాల హక్కుల కోసం, వారికి సమాన గౌరవం దక్కేలా తన జీవితాన్ని పోరాటాలకే అంకితం చేసిన నాయకుడిగా చిరస్మరణీయుడని కొనియాడారు. సమ సమాజ స్థాపనకు కృషి చేశారన్నారు. భారతదేశ స్వాతంత్యానికి దోహదపడటమే కాకుండా దళిత సమాజ సాధికారత, అభ్యున్నతి కోసం అవిశ్రాంతంగా కృషి చేసిన గొప్ప దార్శనిక నాయకుడు బాబూ జగ్జీవన్ రాం అని పేర్కొన్నారు. బాబూ జగ్జీవన్ రాం జీవితం భవిష్యత్ తరాలకు మార్గదర్శకంగా నిలుస్తుందని పేర్కొన్నారు. దేశ అభివృద్ధికి ఆయన తీసుకున్న పలు నిర్ణయాలు నాందిగా నిలిచాయన్నారు. విమానయాన రంగాన్ని ప్రజా రవాణా రంగంగా మార్చిన ఘనత జగ్జీవన్ రాం దే అన్నారు. గత సంవత్సరం నిర్వహించిన సామాజిక సాధికార వారోత్సవాల్లో వచ్చిన అభిప్రాయాలను, సూచనలను దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకొని అనేక సరికొత్త నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకున్నామని, అందులో భాగంగానే ఆదివాసీలకు, ట్రాన్స్ జెండర్ లకు సమతా ఫెల్లోషిప్స్, ఉచిత విద్యా తదితరాలని వెల్లడించారు.
కార్యక్రమంలో ప్రధాన వక్తగా ఉస్మానియా విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ఆర్ట్స్ కళాశాల ప్రిన్సిపాల్, ప్రొ. చింతకింది ఖాసీం పాల్గొన్నారు. అయన “ఆధునిక భారతదేశ అభివృద్ధిలో జగ్జీవన్ రాం పాత్ర” అనే అంశంపై ప్రసంగించారు. ప్రజా జీవితంలో జగ్జీవన్ రాం అనేక అవమానాలను ఎదుర్కొంటూ వాటిపై పోరాటాలు చేస్తూ ప్రజలను సంగటితం చేశారన్నారు. అంటరానితనం రూపు మాపడానికి పోరాటం చేశారన్నారు. ఎన్నో ఆటుపోట్లు ఎదుర్కొంటూ దేశ సంక్షేమం కోసం తన జీవితమంతా అంకితం చేసిన ఓ ప్రముఖ, ప్రజాదరణ పొందిన రాజకీయ నాయకుడిగా ఎదిగారన్నారు. ఆయన ఆధునిక భారత రాజకీయాల స్వర్ణయుగానికి చెందినవారు, జాతీయ నాయకుడిగా, గొప్ప పార్లమెంటేరియన్గా, కేంద్ర మంత్రిగా, అణగారిన వర్గాలకు ఆశాదీపంగా, అపారమైన ప్రాబల్యం కలిగిన, దేశ రాజకీయాలలో అర్ధ శతాబ్దం పాటు సుదీర్ఘ ప్రస్థానం కోన సాగించారన్నారు.
ప్రధాన మంత్రి కావాల్సిన ఆయనను కొన్ని రాజకీయ శక్తులు అడ్డుకున్నాయన్నారు. అణగారిన వర్గాలు ఎదుర్కొనే అనేక సమస్యలను గమనిస్తూ, నిత్య జీవితంలో, తన విద్యార్ధి దశలో ఎదుర్కొన్న ఇబ్బందులను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని వాటిని శాశ్వతంగా రూపు మాపడానికి తను నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకునే వారని ప్రొ. ఖాసీం వివరించారు. భూమిలేని నిరుపేద దళితులకు భూమి పంచి పెట్టెల చట్టం అసైన్ భూ పంపిణీ చట్టాన్ని తెచ్చిన విషయాన్ని గుర్తు చేశారు. బాబు జగ్జీవన్ రాం మన దేశ రాజకీయ, రాజ్యాంగ రచనలో, సామాజిక మార్పు తేవడంలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషించారని వివరించారు. ప్రజా జీవితానికి అంకితమైన నాయకుడిగా గుర్తింపు పొంది, అన్ని వర్గాల నుండి మెప్పు పొందారన్నారు. తన నాయకత్వ లక్షణాలు, సంస్థాగత సామర్థ్యాలకు విస్తృతంగా ప్రశంసలు పొందిన ఆయన భారత రాజకీయాల్లో ఎల్లప్పుడూ కీర్తింపపడే నాయకుడిగా జగ్జీవన్ రాం నిలిచారని ప్రొ. ఖాసిం వివరించారు. మతం మారితే కులం మారుతుందా అనే అంశం పై జగ్జీవన్ రాం దశాబ్దాల క్రితమే సమాజంలో సాంస్కృతిక మార్పు, భావజాల మార్పు రానంత వరకు, కులాల పట్ల వివక్ష పోనంత వరకు సమాజంలో అసమానతలు ఉంటాయని తెలిపారని ఆర్ధికంగా అభివృద్ధి చెందినా అసమానతలు పోవని ప్రొ. ఖాసీం అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. జగ్జీవన్ రాంను ఆదర్శంగా తీసుకొని అణగారిన వర్గాల అభ్యున్నతికి ప్రతీ ఒక్కరూ కృషి చేయాలని పిలుపునిచ్చారు.
కార్యక్రమానికి అధ్యక్షత వహించిన విశ్వవిద్యాలయ రిజిస్ట్రార్ డా. ఎల్వీక్ రెడ్డి మాట్లాడుతూ పది రోజుల పాటు నిర్వహించనున్న సామాజిక సాధికార ఉత్సవాల గురించి వివరించారు. బాబు జగ్జీవన్ రాం, అంబేద్కర్, మహాత్మా ఫులే సిద్దంతాలు ఆచరనీయమని ఆయన పేర్కొన్నారు. సమాజ అభివృద్ధికి వాళ్ళు చేసిన కృషిని కొనియాడారు. కార్యక్రమంలో ఎస్సీ ఎస్టీ సెల్ లైసన్ ఆఫీసర్ డా. బనోత్ ధర్మ కార్యక్రమ నిర్వాహణా ఆవశ్యకతను వివరించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ప్రొ. సుధా రాణి, ప్రొ. ఆనంద్ పవార్, ప్రొ. రాబింద్రనాథ్ సోలమన్, ప్రొ. పల్లవీ, ప్రొ. వడ్డాణం శ్రీనివాస్, ప్రొ. ప్రమీలా కేతావత్, అన్ని విభాగాల అధిపతులు, డీన్స్, అధ్యాపక, అధ్యాపకేతర సిబ్బంది ఉద్యోగ సంఘాల నేతలు కె. ప్రేం కుమార్, విశ్వనాథ్, మియా జానీ, భరత్ రెడ్డి, డా. యకేశ్ దైదా తదితరులు పాల్గొన్నారు. అంతకు ముందు బాబు జగ్జీవన్ రాం చిత్రపటానికి పుష్పాంజలి ఘటించి ఘనంగా నివాళులు అర్పించారు.

BRAOU Organised Babu Jagjivan Ram Lecture
Hyderabad : Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University organized Babu Jagjivan Ram (Former Deputy Prime Minister of India) as a part of “Social Empowerment Week” Celebration Lecture on “Role of Jagjivan Ram in Development of Modern India” at its campus on Monday.
Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. BRAOU, attended as the chief guest for the program. He said that Babu Jagjivan Ram is remembered as a social justice, a leader who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights and dignity of the oppressed. His life was a testimony to resilience and the quest for a more equitable society, and his contributions continue to inspire future generations of leaders and activists dedicated to social justice, equality, and the elimination of caste-based discrimination. He also said that Babu Jagjivan Ram was a visionary leader who not only contributed to India’s independence but also worked tirelessly for the empowerment and upliftment of the Dalit community.
He remarked that Babu Jagjivan Ram’s life serves as a guiding light for future generations. He added that several decisions taken by him laid the foundation for the nation’s development. He credited Jagjivan Ram with the distinction of transforming the aviation sector into a mode of mass public transport. He also revealed that, as taking feedback and suggestions received during the previous ‘Social Empowerment Week’ celebrations held last year. Now this year a several new initiatives have been undertaken, as part of this effort the University offered free education under ‘Samata Fellowships’ for Adivasis and transgender individuals.
Prof. Chintakindi Kaseem, Principal, University College of Arts& Social Sciences, Osmania University attended as keynote speaker and delivered a lecture on “Role of Jagjivan Ram in Development of Modern India”. Prof. Kaseem said Jagjivan Ram’s throughout his public life, he faced numerous indignities, fought against them, and mobilized the masses. Jagjivan Ram waged a relentless struggle to eradicate untouchability. The despite enduring countless vicissitudes, Jagjivan Ram emerged as a prominent and immensely popular political leader who dedicated his entire life to the welfare of the nation. He described him as a figure belonging to the golden era of modern Indian politics a national leader, a distinguished parliamentarian, a Union Minister and a beacon of hope for the marginalized sections of society who wielded immense influence and sustained a remarkable political journey spanning half a century.
He further observed that certain political forces had thwarted his potential to become the Prime Minister. Principal explained that Jagjivan Ram, keenly observing the myriad challenges faced by the marginalized, made policy decisions aimed at their permanent eradication decisions informed by the very hardships he himself had encountered in his daily life and during his student days. He recalled that Jagjivan Ram was instrumental in enacting the Assigned Lands Distribution Act, a legislation designed to distribute land to landless, impoverished Dalits. Babu Jagjivan Ram played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s political landscape and constitutional framework, as well as in driving social change. As a leader wholly dedicated to public service, Jagjivan Ram earned the admiration and esteem of people from all walks of life.
Prof.Khaseem said, having garnered widespread acclaim for his exceptional leadership qualities and organizational prowess, Jagjivan Ram stands as a leader whose legacy will forever be celebrated in the annals of Indian politics. Regarding the question of whether religious conversion leads to a change in caste, Prof. Khaseem noted that decades ago, Jagjivan Ram had asserted that social inequalities would persist as long as there was no cultural or ideological transformation within society, and as long as discrimination based on caste remained uneradicated emphasizing that such inequalities would not disappear merely through economic development. Prof. Khaseem called upon everyone to take Jagjivan Ram as an inspiration and strive for the upliftment of the marginalized sections of society.
Dr. L. Vijaya Krishna Reddy, Registrar presided over the function. He explained “Social Empowerment Celebrations” programs. The ideologies of Babu Jagjivan Ram, Ambedkar, and Mahatma Phule are worthy of emulation. He also lauded the contributions they made towards the development of society. During the program, Dr. Banoth Dharma, the Liaison Officer for the SC/ST Cell, explained the significance of organizing this event. Prof. Sudha Rani, Prof. Anand Pawar, Prof. Rabindranath Solomon, Prof. Pallavi, Prof. Vaddanam Srinivas, and Prof. Prameela Kethavat, All Directors, Deans, Heads of Branches, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Members, representatives of service associations were participated in the program.
