Department of Mass Communication St. Francis College Celebrates Mediasphere 2026

Hyderabad : St. Francis College for Women, Begumpet, hosted Mediasphere 2026, an intercollegiate fest on 11th February, 2026. This is an annually held fest by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, this year, centered on the theme “Languages of India.” The event celebrated India’s rich linguistic diversity and explored the role of media in preserving and amplifying diverse voices across platforms. This year’s fest had an attendance of around 800 students on an average.

The Chief Guest for the inaugural was Rahul Ravindran, renowned film actor, writer and director. In an engaging and thought-provoking session, Rahul Ravindran shared personal reflections from his journey as an actor and director. He emphasized two key life values for students: self-awareness and empathy, calling them essential qualities for future media professionals. He encouraged students to consume global art and cinema across languages to broaden their perspectives, reminding them of their responsibility as future members of the fourth estate in shaping public opinion with maturity and compassion.

During the interactive Q&A session, he spoke about pursuing joy in one’s career, the mental demands of filmmaking, and the importance of resilience in the film industry. He also stressed the need for safer and more inclusive workspaces, particularly for women in cinema, advocating shared responsibility in building a respectful professional environment.

The Principal, Prof. T. Uma Joseph, on this occasion, said that the department and the college take pride in hosting the Media Sphere every year. She appreciated the efforts made by the department and congratulated the students. She highlighted the historic role of media from the freedom struggle to the digital era in shaping public opinion and fostering unity. Emphasizing India’s linguistic richness, she noted that “language must serve as a bridge of unity rather than division, reinforcing the idea of unity in diversity.”

This year, Mediasphere was open for 11 competitions where students and faculty showcased their talent, they included POV: Hyderabad (Reel Making), Lights Camera Action (Short film and Documentary, Ghoshane (PSA), Memefluence, Vlog Verse, Minizine (Journaling), Thumka Junction (Dance), Ad-Venture, Swaram Swechha (Open Mic), Lights Camera Trivia (Quiz) Faculty Got Talent (Singing Contest).

At the Valedictory Ceremony, Mr. Gunasekhar, renowned film director and screenwriter along with the Euphoria movie team Mrs. Ragini Guna, Ms. Neelima Guna, Ms. Yuktamukhi, Vignesh Gavireddy, and Ronith Garg, graced the occasion. Gunasekhar spoke about the importance of Mass Communication and praised the students for their academic achievements and contribution to promoting Telugu language and cinema. Encouraging them to support Telugu films, the speaker highlighted the film Euphoria, urging audiences to watch it in theatres for its inspirational impact rather than waiting for OTT. The address concluded with appreciation for the institution and its faculty and a promise to interact with viewers and share insights on cinema in the near future.. The team also interacted with the students in an engaging Q&A session and shared their experiences related to the film Euphoria.

The winners were rewarded with prizes and participatory certificates were given to the students. The Communis club and the department had a successful celebration of the fest, making many memories. Mediasphere 2026 attracted an audience from different colleges namely St Ann’s, Loyola Academy, Bhavan’s, St. Joseph’s and more
