Hyderabad : Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, Faculty of Sciences organized National Science Day lecture on “India’s Agri – Revolution : Shortage to Surplus with Science” in honour with the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist C. V. Raman on 28 February at its campus at on Saturday.
Prof Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU attended as Chief Guest for the program. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, said No matter how many scientists there are in the country, they have done special research in their respective fields and contributed to the development of the country, but Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution who worked for the development of all sections of this country, is a great social scientist.

He said any country in the world should believe in science and move forward in line with the economic and technological changes coming in various fields, only then will development be possible in all fields. He called for the future of India to be free from superstitions and unscientific methods. He suggested that young researchers should focus on modern technology and social development research. In the coming days, university will sign a memorandum of understanding with ICRISAT and create new courses that will benefit rural students and farmers in Telangana. He revealed that new agricultural-based vocational courses will be started from the coming academic year.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director General, The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Telangana delivered a lecture on “India’s Agri – Revolution : Shortage to Surplus with Science”. Dr. Pathak said at the time of independence, there was a high rate of hunger due to the lack of access to adequate agricultural products for the country’s population. Even then, India’s land area is still the same and the population is increasing every year.

However, from a deficit of agricultural products, today our country has reached the level of exporting agricultural products to the world, which is possible only with science. He explained that agricultural research has increased in the country. The ICRISAT is at the forefront of developing varieties that increase yield. He also called for respecting the food we eat and the farmers who grow it.

Prof. G . Pushpa Chakrapani, Director (Academic) & Dean, Faculty of Sciences presided over the program. She explained about the significance of National Science Day. While speaking, she explained that it is an auspicious sign to celebrate the National Science Day in his name to recognize the Raman effect discovered by the famous Indian researcher Sir CV Raman.

Prof. S. V. Rajasheker Reddy, Former Professor of Geology, BRAOU spoke on the occasion. Prof. Sridevi; Prof. K. Prameela; Dr. Kishore; Dr. Ramakrishna; Dr. S. Rajitha; Dr. Y. Kumar; Dr. Narasayya Battu, Dr. Y. Ashok; All Directors, Deans, Heads of Branches, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Members, faculty members, representatives of service associations, science students attended the program. On this occasion, scientific exhibitions organized by students of various departments, a specially designed robot and a display of various types of snakes stood out.
