Hyderabad: National Institute of Tourism & Hospitality Management (NITHM), Gachibowli Hyderabad, conducted Indira Mahila Shakthi Canteen Management Training of batch 3 (23 candidates) from 11th – 20th Nov’24. Totally 83 women have been trained in three successfully completed batches.
This 10 Days Program is Sponsored by Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Department, Government of Telangana, Hyderabad.
The program gives livelihood training to women in bulk cooking, helping and encouraging them to open their own canteens and become successful entrepreneurs. Learning for 10 days is on various menus such as Varieties of Rice, Tea Varieties, Telangana Snacks and Sweets, Basic Gravies, Biryani and Savory. Apart from their hands on practical learning, the theory learning was imparted on Hygienic practices in food handling; Menu Planning & Food Preparation; Presentation & Plating Techniques; Permits and Licenses; Pantry and Canteen Management; Food Services and also Soft Skills and Grooming.
The Valedictory Ceremony was conducted today 20th Nov at 2:00 pm. The opening address was given by Smt. D. Divya, IAS; CEO of SERP. On the Dias Shri. W Johnson, Director of SERP; were Chef Dr.MK Ganesh Principal I/c NITHM;Shri. Shravan Kumar SERP Training; NITHMs Chef A.Mahesh and Chef Tulja Ram.
During the validatory, W Johnson Mentioned- that they should be happy after getting trained in NITHM, use the training for their business successfully. Learning bulk cooking should be made effective with zero error. Keeping in mind quality, taste and presentation it should be a home food feeling. Wastage should be minimal for a profiting business. Chef MK Gangesh, mentioned- The food cooked should be like Home food, quality food and not to use artificial food color. Natural colors must be used. Chef Tulja Ram mentioned- Quality food makes people happy. You should 1st taste it first before giving it to others.
Chef Mahesh mentioned- Be Hygienic always, keeping in mind being clean and the work area should be clean always. Shravan Kumar. Mentioned Serp is a livelihood activity that started much before Corona the department was looking at Canteen Management Training for Women. And today through the Indira Mahila Shakthi Canteen Management Training many women are being given an opportunity to become successful entrepreneurs. Home food for all the masses to enjoy.Keep the spirit of learning and great entrepreneurs.
The students shared their learning experiences, and were very happy with the program. Many of the participants have small businesses and now are empowered to open their canteen soon. The program was coordinated well by Sr. Asst. Prof. Mrs. Michelle J Francis from NITHM,under the guidance of Sri Zendage Hanumant Kondiba, IAS Director of Tourism and Nithm.
