Hyderabad: The twenty-fifth convocation of Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University was held in the university campus on Thursday with great pomp. Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi was the chief guest and delivered the Convocation address.
He said, when the names were called out of the candidates receiving their Ph.D degrees, the first candidate was aged 76 years, the second student was an Auto Driver and the third student was a prisoner, the fourth was a house wife and so on and so forth. this demonstrated the diversity of the student profile of the first open university. This is a message for all of us of how ODL and online education is transforming the lives of the students across the country.
The students come from economically and socially deprived sections and along with them their families are also alleivated both socially and economically. The social status and economic status will improve thus making our country socially, culturally and economically developed. The ODL regulations make the ODL and online degress equal to conventional degrees. I am pleased to know the BRAOU as the first open university has led the movement of ODL and online education. Today ODL and online education has broken the barriers that have existed over the years.
Students can move from ODL to Conventional mode with multiple entry and multiple exit scheme as per the UGC guidelines. the UGC permitting dual degrees more students will take up education through Online and ODL mode. Our data shown that in ODL and Online education. women representation is more than 50 percent. G20 Presidency was on how to ensure that the developemt is women led development. our country will surely be led by women who have never imagined to get an Undergraduate degree without BRAOU. I have no hesitation to say that women will lead the development in our country.
This university is playing a Vital role in making high quality education accessable to the students comming from remote areas, from backgrounds where the mother could be a house maid, father could be an auto driver or a farmer. coming from those backgrounds and receiving these degrees. I am sure they would get many opportunities to grow in future. UGC ensures that all the Universities offering programs online and in ODL mode adhere to UGC guidelines for quality and consistency.
Prof. K. Seetharama Rao, Vice-chancellor presided over the Convocation. He stressed as many as 31,729 passed candidates became eligible for degrees/diplomas/certificates in this Convocation. 31,729 passed candidates who qualified in this Convocation. 20,972 candidates passed in degree (B.A/B.Com/B Sc) courses; 10,757 candidates have passed in PG (MA/ M.Com/ M.Sc, MBA) courses, B.Lisc, M.Lisc, PG Diploma and various certificate courses. And 20 Research Scholars received degrees after their research in M.Phil / Ph.D.
Eminent Educationist Prof.V.S. Prasad, was conferred Doctor of Letters (Honorary Casa – Honorary Doctorate) in recognition of his services in the field of universal education and higher education. He also said that the Dr. BRAOU delivers education to the door step of its learners making a substantial contribution to the field of higher education in terms of numbers, thus increasing the GER of the nation and it is with a sense of pride and accomplishment that I wish to state that the University has contributed around 17 percent to the Gross Enrollment Ratio of the State of Telangana and emerged as an epicenter Open and Distance Learning. I would not be digressing if l say that the University caters to the economically and socially- deprived sections of the society and strives to mitigate extreme inequalities of educational access to these sections.
Our journey has Witnessed immense ups and downs: while a casual look at the University environs reveals a sea-change in infrastructural facilities and the Teaching- learning strategies adopted, what are not seen are heartaches experienced when things did not turn out as we expected in certain cases. This period marked the beginning of a new phase in the history of the University. The juncture at which we stood in this year was coupled with many challenges some surmountable while some were un-Surmountable.
Gold Medals and Book Prizes:
A total of 43 gold medals (Degree – 17 and PG – 26) were awarded in this graduation ceremony, 33 for women and 10 for men. In the degree, women won 13 gold medals and men won 4 gold medals. In PG, women won 20 and men won 6 gold medals. Also 3 book prizes were awarded. A total of 148 inmates completed their degrees in this convocation. An interesting aspect of this convocation is that 137 male and 11 female students were among those who received their degrees. Two prisoners were awarded Gold Medal – (Degree 1 & PG 1). 1 prisoners got book prize.
In this Convocation, several Executive members of the University also present. Prof. D. Ravinder, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University IAS, Sri R. Shailesh Reddy, Dr. Banoth Lal, Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Prof. A. V. R.N. Reddy, Registrar, Directors Prof. Sudha Rani, Prof. Vaddanam Srinivas, Prof. Gunti Ravi, Prof. Shakeela Khanam, Prof. Anand Pawar, Prof. Pushpa Chakrapani, Deans of various departments, Teaching and Non-teaching staff and various service Association representatives also participated.

హైదరాబాద్ : డా బి ఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ ఓపెన్ యూనివర్శిటీ ఇరవై ఐదో స్నాతకోత్సవం గురువారం విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ప్రాంగణంలో అంగరంగ వైభవంగా జరిగింది. ప్రొ. ఎం . జగదేశ్ కుమార్, యూనివర్సిటీ గ్రాంట్స్ కమిషన్ (యూజీసీ) చైర్మన్, న్యూ ఢిల్లీ స్నాతకోత్సవానికి ముఖ్య అతిధిగా హాజరయ్యారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ… ఇక్కడకు వచ్చిన పలువు విద్యార్ధులతో తాను ముచ్చటించానని వారిలో మొదటి అభ్యర్థి వయస్సు 76 సంవత్సరాలు, రెండవ విద్యార్థి ఆటో డ్రైవర్, మూడవ విద్యార్థి ఖైదీ, నాల్గవ వ్యక్తి గృహిణి ఉన్నారని తనకు ఆనందం కలిగిందన్నారు. విద్యార్థిల వ్యక్తిగత వివరాలు తెలుసుకున్నప్పుడు దేశంలో మొదటి సార్వత్రిక విశ్వవిద్యాలయం సరైన పంథాలో ముందుకు సాగుతున్నదని పేర్కొన్నారు. ODL మరియు ఆన్లైన్ విద్య దేశవ్యాప్తంగా విద్యార్థుల జీవితాలను ఎలా ప్రభావితం చేస్తుందో అర్ధం చేసుకోవచ్చు అన్నారు.
వీరిలో చాలామంది విద్యార్థులు ఆర్థికంగా, సామాజికంగా వెనుకబడిన వర్గాల నుండి వచ్చారు, తల్లి ఇంటి పనిమనిషిగా, తండ్రి ఆటో డ్రైవర్గా లేదా రైతుగా ఉండే నేపథ్యాల నుండి మారుమూల ప్రాంతాల నుండి వచ్చే విద్యార్థులకు నాణ్యమైన విద్యను అందుబాటులోకి తీసుకురావడంలో అంబేద్కర్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం కీలక పాత్ర పోసిస్తుదన్నారు. పిల్లలు ప్రతిభా వంతులు అయితే వారితో పాటు వారి కుటుంబాలు కూడా సామాజికంగా, ఆర్థికంగా, అభివృద్ధి చెందుతాయి. సామాజిక స్థితి ఆర్థిక స్థితి మెరుగుపడుతుంది, తద్వారా మన దేశం సామాజికంగా, సాంస్కృతికంగా ఆర్థికంగా అభివృద్ధి చెందుతుంది అని వివరించారు. మన దేశాన్ని అభివృద్ధి పథంలో నడిపించేది మహిళలే అని చెప్పడానికి నాకు ఎలాంటి సందేహం లేదు.
భవిష్యత్తులో వారు ఎదగడానికి చాలా అవకాశాలు లభిస్తాయని నేను ఖచ్చితంగా అనుకుంటున్నాను. ఆన్లైన్లో మరియు ODL పద్ధతిలో ప్రోగ్రామ్లను అందించే అన్ని విశ్వవిద్యాలయాలు నాణ్యత కోసం UGC మార్గదర్శకాలకు కట్టుబడి ఉండేలా UGC ఎప్పటికప్పుడు మార్గదర్శకాలను జారీ చేస్తూ అమలు చేసేలా పర్యవేక్షిస్తుంది అన్నారు.
ఈ స్నాతకోత్సవానికి అధ్యక్షత వహించిన విశ్వవిద్యాలయ ఉప కులపతి ప్రొ. కె. సీతారామా రావు మాట్లాడుతూ… విద్య సంవత్సర వార్షిక నివేదికను సమర్పించారు. 31,729 మంది ఉత్తీర్ణులైన అభ్యర్థులు డిగ్రీలు/డిప్లొమాలు/సర్టిఫికెట్లు పొందేందుకు అర్హులైయ్యారన్నారు. డిగ్రీ (బి.ఎ/బి.కాం/బి ఎస్సి) కోర్సుల్లో 20,972 అభ్యర్థులు ఉత్తీర్ణులయ్యారు; పీ.జీ (ఎం.ఏ/ ఎం.కాం/ ఎం.ఎస్సీ, ఎం.బీ.ఏ) కోర్సులు, B.Lisc, M.Lisc, పీజీ డిప్లొమా, పలు సర్టిఫికెట్ కోర్సుల్లో 10,757 అభ్యర్థులు ఉత్తీర్ణత సాధించినట్లు వెల్లడించారు.
దేశంలోనే తొలిసారిగా రెగ్యులర్ యూనివర్సిటీలతో సమానంగా ఓడీఎల్లో సీబీసీఎస్ విధానాన్ని ప్రవేశపెట్టగా కోర్సు పూర్తి చేసి విద్యార్థులు పట్టాలు అందుకున్నారన్నారు. ఈ స్నాతకోత్సవంలో మొత్తం 148 మంది ఖైదీలు డిగ్రీ పూర్తి చేసుకున్నారని. ఇందులో ఇద్దరు ఖైదీలకు గోల్డ్ మెడల్స్ లభించాయి – (డిగ్రీ 1 & పీజి 1). ఒక ఖైదీకి బుక్ ప్రైజ్ లభించిందని వెల్లడించారు.
ఈ స్నాతకోత్సవంలో ప్రముఖ విద్యావేత్త ప్రొ.వి.ఎస్.ప్రసాద్కు సార్వత్రిక విద్య, ఉన్నత విద్యా విభాగంలో ఆయన చేసిన సేవలకు గుర్తింపుగా డాక్టర్ ఆఫ్ లెటర్స్ (హానరిస్ కాసా – గౌరవ డాక్టరేట్) ప్రధానం చేశారు.
