The world’s largest Nayapul/Beerethati-Muktinath cable car project is about to start in Nepal. This project is being started at a time when China is rapidly expanding its foothold in Nepal. In 2022, China had announced to provide assistance of Rs 15 billion to Nepal. In such a situation, the importance of this project increases significantly from diplomatic point of view also.
The Nayapul/Beerethati-Muktinath Cable Car Project, which will give a new height to the mutual trade relations between India and Nepal, is rapidly taking shape. An initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Muktinath Cablecar Private Limited and K&R Rail Engineering Limited of Hyderabad, the leading companies of both the countries, to complete this major development project in high standards and within stipulated time. This is the world’s largest cable car project.
Nayapul/Beerethati-Muktinath Cable Car Project is a long pending project. For this, the Nepal Government Investment Board has approved this contract and investment between the companies of India and Nepal. The MoU was officially signed by Shridhar Sapkota, Managing Director, representing Muktinath Cablecar Pvt Ltd and KP Kalra, Chairman, K&R Rail Engineering Ltd, representing EPCF.
Under the terms of the MoU, K&R Rail Engineering Limited has agreed to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the project as well as project loan in non-convertible currency.
90% land acquisition work completed
Work on this project has been going on for the last two years, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) study and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) are also in their final stages. Muktinath Darshan Pvt. Ltd. has completed the acquisition of 90% of the land required for the project.
Cost of Muktinath Cable Car Project
The estimated cost of the Muktinath Cable Car Project is Rs 55 billion. The financial resources for this are nearing completion, as the required loan arrangements will be made through the EPCF (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing) structure. 2 per cent of its cost will be borne by the affected sectors through reserved shares, 7 per cent shares will be made available for general interest, and the remaining 11 per cent will be designated as promoter shares.
The project will be completed in 48 months
The Nayapul/Beerethati-Muktinath Cable Car Project is expected to be completed within a maximum period of 48 months from the date of foundation stone laying. For this, the remaining administrative and legal processes are being completed. Based on the current situation, K&R Rail Engineering Limited is finalizing this comprehensive agreement.
Why is Muktinath Cable Car Project important?
Muktinath Cable Car Project is a must for those visiting Muktinath Temple. This temple is situated at the top of Dzhong Khola valley. This Dzhongkhola valley generally creates its own identity by the name of Muktinath valley. After the completion of this project, tourists can visit the snow covered peaks between Dzhongkhola and Kali Gandaki river. Adjacent to it, if seen from the front, there are treeless rocks forming layer after layer, in between which a group of bushes can be seen and at other places one can see scattered grass and thorny vegetation.
Indian pilgrims will benefit
According to the data released by Nepal Tourism Board, the highest number of tourists going to Nepal in the year 2023 were from India. According to the data, a total of 6,14,148 foreign tourists came to the country during January to December last year. Out of which 2,09,105 tourists were only Indians, while in this case, America stood second with 77,009 tourists and Britain stood third with 44,781 tourists. According to ATB data, Australia stood at fourth position with 26,874 tourists. After this, Bangladesh remained at number 5 with 25,384 people. In such a situation, this project of Muktinath Darshan and K&R Rail Engineering will prove to be a milestone.
